You have two great bars around the corner: Ferryman and Dockers. You will get a better experience there. I didn't have any issues with the service besides they were unable to get me a credit card receipt. Getting drinks was like a buffet line. No bar seats. Tables were sticky.Service: 4/5
This is the hotel bar of the Carlton hotel Cardiff Lane Dublin. Staff were conducting an employee review or disciplinary meeting of one of their staff in the bar of the actual hotel, amongst hotel patrons! Not an informal telling-off, an actual meeting. Surely they should do this back of house or offsite? I felt so sorry for the poor guy with all the hotel patrons looking at him. @CarltonHotelCardiffL
I was very disappointed with The Vertigo Bar. The owner says it is a modern Irish traditional bar. To me it is a bar in an hotel that is in Dublin with no sense of Irishness about it. It was a little grubby when I was there. I would suggest that the owner should go there incognito and order some food. I suspect there would be big changes. The bar lacks any sense of atmosphere. I was there on a Saturday night with a couple of friends. We didn't stay long. There were very few people there when we were there. It is such a pity because the location is great. The staff are friendly. I have never stayed in the hotel, so the Vertigo Bar may bear no relation to the other facilities guests experience.
On holiday. 1 star is very generous. Ate at the restaurant the first night. There were no clean glasses at our table. The servers were up our butts about the orders for the first 5 minutes then didn't show up again for 15. Servers didn't remember orders and weren't helpful when asked questions. Drinks took forever and were very expensive.3.50 for mabey a 6 oz coke The Guinness tasted off. Our orders did not come to specifications. Basically terrible servers, expensive food and terrible quality.
GO ELSEWHERE. Extremely poor service, high prices, poor food, and swapped ingredients. Vertigo and their sister restaurant in the hotel should not be in business. Go elsewhere if you are able to, many better places within 2 blocks. We were coming into an almost empty restaurant at 7:00pm. Seated at a dirty table both chair and booth were covered in crumbs that was missing the side plates. Were given only dinner menus, no drink menus. Manager came by and asked for our orders barely 3 minutes after we sat down, while they dropped off the bread we had no plate to eat it on. We ordered and asked for a drink menu, they never came back. Meanwhile another couple was seated directly next to us, in the empty restaurant. The waiter for that table noticed that we had not been helped, gave us the drink menu, and then took our drink orders when they were dropping off food for the other table. Tom Collins cocktail was weak, tasteless, and 13 euro! Turns out despite claiming Tanquery, they use Gordon's gin... Food arrived wrong, carrots, parsnips, and whole poorly roasted potatoes instead of green beans and mashed potatoes. Everything was bland and underwhelming. Burger was terrible, couldn't eat it. Literally ate the bread over the burger. Hake needed salt, pepper, and butter to even be edible. Waited 15 minutes to try and pay, ended up having to walk to the front and get someone unrelated to our table to take way too much money before we could leave. Seriously, save yourself a very expensive and wasted evening and go elsewhere.
Unfortunately one star is the least I can give! No stars would be my actual rating, at least on my order!! I ordered a Guinness, and as most people who love Guinness know there is a ritual to pouring a pint! First of all, the barman use a standard pint glass, Not a Guinness glass!! -1 For the first part of the pour, everything was perfect! While letting it rest, he prepared two Cococktails -Cosmopolitan - both of which were just far too sweet! -1 Then he came back to finish off my pint, which is the easiest! But he over poured it, then poured some off, overpoured again, dumped some off again and then topped it off before serving it to me!!! -2 In other words....this was the worst Guinness pint in Dublin!
I was here a couple of times as I was sleeping in the Clayton Hotel. The Bar itself is cosy and nice, perfect for a couple of drinks. But the food is not very good and is expensive.
Payed 12€ for a Tom Collins - cocktail card says Tanqueray but he used cheap gordons. After all, tastes like soap water..
Vertigo bar, attached to the Clayton hotel is a decent option for a quick bite or drink when staying in the hotel. The carvery is pretty standard and fairly heavy with lots of starch and meat, but the soup and sandwiches are pretty good. The mexican style sandwich had a nice tanginess to it and was on very good fluffy bread. The chips were also pretty solid with a nice crispy crunch. It’s not a place I’d go over some of the nicer options in Dublin, but when at the hotel, you can’t beat the convenience.
The food is quite good but not necessarily for the price you'll pay. There are much nicer places to eat upon around Grand Canal Square and the Ferryman is a better pub.
