Founded in the fifteenth century, St Andrews is Scotland's first university and the third oldest in the English speaking world.

Teaching began in the community of St Andrews in 1410 and the University was formally constituted by the issue of Papal Bull in 1413.

The University is now one of Europe's most research intensive seats of learning - over a quarter of its turnover comes from research grants and contracts. It is one of the top rated universities in Europe for research, teaching quality and student satisfaction and is consistently ranked among the UK's top five in leading independent league tables produced by The Times, The Guardian and the Sunday Times.

Our son, Kiro, studied Philosophy at the University of St Andrews, and as parents, we feel it is only right to share something of our experience. This is not a review of teaching methods or academic structures; we cannot speak for those, but rather a personal reflection on life as the parent of a student, and the joy we felt in discovering this remarkable place alongside him.nnSt Andrews itself is unlike anywhere else. Nestled on the coast, it feels both remote and timeless, with an atmosphere so enchanting that it seems almost unreal at times. Coming from London, each visit felt like stepping into another world, peaceful, picturesque, and steeped in history. The journey may not be the easiest by public transport, but perhaps that very distance is what has allowed the town to preserve its beauty and authenticity!nnWe visited Kiro often, and every time we were struck by how safe and welcoming St Andrews felt. We never encountered difficulties, and the town always gave us a sense of reassurance, a gift for any parent sending their child away to study. Walking its cobbled streets, exploring the coastline, and sharing moments of everyday life with our son there gave us memories we will always treasure.nnWe are deeply grateful that our son had the opportunity to study at such a distinguished university, in such an extraordinary setting. As parents, we too feel enriched by the experience of St Andrews, its charm, its history, and its warmth. It has been a privilege to know it and experience its magic.
No golfer can resist a trip to Saint Andrews. But if you only go to the old course, you’re missing out on one of the loveliest towns there is and did the heart of it is the University of St. Andrews. The ancient university sometimes better known as the place where the Prince and Princess of Wales attended, but I prefer to think of it and remember it as a world class institution that just happens to be next-door to a bunch of world class golf courses. It was not term time when I visited, but the few people I saw deleted with the school were friendly. And the campus buildings and grounds itself, dispersed among the town, were impeccable. I’d be happy to see members of my family attend, this venerable institution.
We were visiting St Andrews for a day trip from Stirling and walked around town. It was founded in 1413 the oldest university in Scotland and 3rd oldest in the English-speaking world. Prince William and Kate Middleton met here. The architecture of the buildings were beautiful.
Come and learn here.nSt andrews is a historical place with lot of attractions.nNice golf field, good hotels, many students and clean city. A nice beach is right there.
The university of St Andrews is a lovely, old, historic institution set on the seaside city of quaint St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. My wife and I strolled around it, during our free time on our bus tour of Scotland after exploring the oldest golf course in the world, ‘The Old Course,’ the ruins of the tragic St Andrews cathedral and the famous nearby beach, the Saint Andrews West Sands, from the movie ‘Chariots of Fire.’nnWhat a unique and wonderful university to be able to attend! Founded in 1413, it is Scotlands oldest and most prestigious university. It is the third oldest English speaking school in the world. It was founded by Catholic priest who were forced out of Paris, Oxford and Cambridge by politics. In 1876 they were one of the first universities to open to woman, but only by correspondence at first.nnThe university has had its struggles over its long life and at one time only had 100 students. Now around 12,000 students attend this prestigious university. There is also a statue of Prince William where he met Kate, while they were students here.
