As a sighted/VI couple we were very apprehensive about out first trip with TravelEyes, but we needn't have been - it was great! We had a highly enjoyable few days in Berlin with a friendly group and terrific tour manager who looked after us very well- we've already booked another holiday. No hesitation in recommending Traveleyes - go for it!
I went on my first Traveleyes trip recently down the Danube river on a cruise as a sighted guide. It was my first cruise and I thoroughly enjoyed stopping off at different places each day Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava to name a few. The people on the trip were lovely which really made the trip too. I would highly recommend going on a Traveleyes holiday.
Absolutely fantastic - highly recommended! I had my first holiday with Traveleyes in January this year, in Guatemala, and it was amazing! Everything about the holiday, from the superb tour leader Catherine and local guide Emilio, to the excursions which were very interesting and well organised, to the locations and the hotels and restaurants - it all created a richness and depth to the holiday that I haven't experienced with other travel. I was a little nervous about being a sighted guide, but the information Traveleyes sent in advance was excellent, and Catherine and the VIs were extremely patient and helpful too. There was a fantastic mix of people in the group, who were great company. I'm in awe of the VIs who really helped me experience a holiday in a different way. I will definitely be traveling with Traveleyes again in future.
I joined a recent Traveleyes tour to Berlin as a sighted traveller a little nervously not knowing quite what to expect I needn't have worried. The intinery was very well thought out my fellow travellers both sighted & visually impaired were great. There was a lot of fun, laughter & interesting conversation over our evening meals together. The Traveleyes tour manger was an excellent organiser very capable & ensured everything went smoothly. It was an enjoyable uplifting experience with people you met as strangers & at the end parted as friends. I will definitely go again it was brilliant.
Traveleyes is a great concept but it is an ambitious company and if you dare to point out some difficulties, you had better be feeling robust as they are quick to mark you a troublemaker. We encountered both unprofessional and unkind treatment from the office which spoilt memories of a good holiday overall thanks to other clients and the local guide. Will not waste precious time and money travelling with an organisation that refuses to take responsibility and care.
As a treat for my retirement I booked a trip to La Palma with Traveleyes. What I treat I had - so much fun, respect, emotion and new friends. It opened an interesting world to me and I look forward to my next trip. I learned a lot from sighted and visually impaired travellers, look forward to my next journey/walk in May.
I have been on FOUR holidays so far and have been really well looked after, met some marvellous people, seen some amazing sights and had some wonderful adventures. The travelling groups are small ,the itinerary well-planned and the leaders most professional and caring.
Growing up, my family didn’t “do” holidays; having 3 children who were slowly going blind from birth helps to explain why. By the time I could afford to travel independently my sight had deteriorated to the point where it was no longer practical. So I convinced myself that I just wasn’t interested. Then I discovered Traveleyes. “Start small,” was my approach. A week in Austria was perfect; close enough that, if it all went wrong, my rusty German would get me home more-or-less safely. That was August 2012. I’m now on my nineteenth trip, eleventh country and fifth continent, and don’t intend to stop till I’ve seen them all. The people are what make it work. Fellow conspirators, sighted and blind, united in their desire to experience everything their chosen destination has to offer. I’ve taken sighted travellers mountain walking, kaiaking, wave-boarding, river tubing and skiing. One lucky soul got to accompany me on the “edge walk” around Toronto’s CN Tower. We spent New Year’s Eve 2016 in the Amazon rain forest and a few days afterwards were snorkelling with sharks, sea lions and turtles off the Galapagos. The best thing is, there’s just no hassle. Your only responsibilities are to get to the airport and to be prepared to have an amazing time. Don’t come on a TravelEyes trip if you want to do a good deed or feel virtuous. Do if you want to spend 7, 10 or 14 days talking, laughing and exploring the world.
I have recently returned from my first trip with Traveleyes to Madrid and haven't stopped telling people that it was the best holiday I have been on in a long time. Can't speak too highly of the organisation, the group and can't wait to go on the next one.
This being my first trip with Traveleyes, I was a bit sceptical as to how it would work, but I can assure anyone thinking of giving this type of holiday a go, that it is well worth it and very rewarding to know that you have helped someone less fortunate than you to have a holiday.
