I attended the medical center today but the new appointment system is awful. I am currently battling a bladder infection. The usual system was to ring the Dr's and arrange a telephone consultation. I am a Kidney transplant patient so this happens quite often. I normally speak to a Doctor who then prescribed antibiotics. However today I had to go through an online procedure that was very confusing. Unfortunately I was rude to the lady on reception because of my symptoms. She was very helpful and talked me through the process. I feel extremely guilty for the way that I spoke to her. I apologise.
An absolute nightmare trying to book an appointment to see a Doctor..the new booking an appointment online is appalling and doesn't work, so much more complicated and extremely time consuming...Having to fill in a form online then waiting up to 6 hours for someone from the surgery to call you back to make an appointment is not practical for a lot of people..not everyone has the luxury of sitting at home all day waiting for the phone to ring...my job doesn't allow me to have my mobile phone with me all day either...I'm STILL waiting for an appointment!!! It doesn't help people like us with depression/anxiety issues....
Reception team hands out wrong information and is rude. The GPs I dealt with were incompetent.nnImpossible to get blood taking appointment on the day the GP requested it to be taken at the practice. Receptionist said there aren’t any appointments available and she can’t do anything about it even though I told her that the GP told me that it needs to be taken on either of these specific days to get accurate results. It didn’t seem like she cared to check with the GP directly, instead she decided to fob me off. She said to go to Northampton Hospital to get it taken on one of the specific days no appointment needed. After asking her several times if one really can just walk in without appointment there I even called her again after reading contradicting information on the hospital’s website she insisted that you can just show up no appointment needed and they will know what blood test to take.nnSo I phoned the Hospital just to be sure that I don’t go there unnecessarily because I can’t drive and was in pain. It would have been a 3h bus journey in total for me while being in a lot of pain which I wasn’t prepared to do unnecessarily.nnThe lady on the phone at the blood taking unit of the hospital said that they have been appointment only since covid and that she doesn’t see any requested blood taking for me in the system either so the reception team at TMC gave me the wrong information and the gp didn’t request my blood to be taken!nPhoned the reception again to let them know so they don’t tell this wrong information to other patients and the receptionist didn’t even apologise to me. She just said she will pass it on to the other receptionists.nA few days later I received a text message from the GP that she now has requested the blood test in the system, no apology either!nSo turns out the GP forgot to pass on information to their system which delayed my diagnosis and treatment and the receptionists didn’t bother to check any of the concerns I had. They just wanted me off the phone as soon as they can. The GP had several weeks to put it in the system so she clearly forgot to do it after my appointment.nnI understand that mistakes can happen and that the NHS is under a lot of pressure but it says a lot if you can’t apologise if you made a mistake.nThere were other problems I experienced with the practice before this which I let pass but the way this was handled and the lack of apologies received made me switch surgeries.nnI switched to Greens Norton now and have been diagnosed within a couple of weeks and appointments for blood taking weren’t an issue at all.nnI don’t really fancy speaking with the practice manager as this all has been extremely exhausting for me while being in pain and I don’t really need an apology, what I needed was being taken seriously at the time and not having to deal with receptionists with god complex and an incompetent GP who can’t apologise. However, I only ever had contact with 3 of their GPs so maybe the other ones are great, the receptionists kept me from wanting to find out.
Very pleased with professional and caring service I received over the years from Doctors Andrew and Nicola Oddwell. Also big thanks on behalf of my daughter to Doctor Katie Owles for taking special care of her. Thank you so much!!!
Not very good at helping people's who are bedbound. They leave you a month to SEE a Dr & a nurse phones who doesn't know your background doesn't read your notes left my husband needing urgent surgery after an phone consult and was given an appointment a month away! Dr Griffiths is the best one there.
