Est. in 1196, Torre Abbey is a museum of history and art housed in an Ancient Scheduled Monument on the beautiful South Devon coast.

Based in Torquay on the English Riviera, this family friendly Torbay Council owned museum and gardens is a centre for creativity and culture with a seasonal programme of exhibitions, events and activities across visual arts, history and live performance. Kids and teens up to 18 years go free, and the 1196 Club offers adult membership with unlimited visits from just £16 a year. Reasons aplenty to visit today.

There are lots of entertainment for children leading up to the Abbey Museum. I am not sure if it would be suitable for youngsters in the museum despite attempts to entertain with puzzles etc. Good disability access although some areas are quite tight for scooters. Lovely gardens quiet and peaceful.

Interesting visiting around the museum. Whether you want history or art it has it both. Well worth the time exploring fully including the outside. Well laid out and good interactivity on telling you the history over time.

Fascinating place with a good mix of history and visual focus. I was less interested in the tattoo exhibits but in a macabre way still added to the day. Cafe was adequate.

Recommended.

Grand audio visual displays telling history of people involved with the house. Variety of items on display from all ages of history. Interesting route through the building with galleries well organised. Gardens to explore including Agatha Christie area with herbs. Close to station and sea front.

Tea room would be improved if soya/almond milk, the demand on the day I visited meant other cafes nearby had run out.

One of my favourite places in Torquay, beautiful place and fabulous gardens especially the Dahlias. Although in the winter you can get some excellent shots of migratory birds around and inside the gardens.
