Good for furniture shops not much else. Parking is tight. With all the new housing around its busy most of the time.

The usual run of shops, which is a bit pointless reviewing as each shop is different. From the viewpoint of a 'shopping centre' though, the area is abysmal. Parking is a nightmare. I'll have to add a photo to fully express the pain. Certain areas of the car park are 'one way' with arrows directing cars around to 'flow' properly. However, the public are mean and unpredictable, so very often, you'll be following the flow when suddenly a car will come the other way. The roads aren't designed for 'two a-breast' and the oncoming car will 'politely' let you know you're in their way. The 'centre' is just an outside area for other shops. They have recently upgraded certain parts to have seating, but its not enough. Over the road, we have another area for PC World, B&M and Staples. Their car park is better laid out and no one-way areas. Its like Holby and Casualty - meant to be in the same hospital, but totally different pubs, shops and layouts. There are no public toilets or 'facilities' - you have to rely on the shops for toilets, etc. There is no sheltered area, so if its raining, again, you have to wander round a shop aimlessly. But the car parking is by far the worst. When people leave 'casualty' and drive to 'holby' they can block the road waiting to turn right. Which neatly brings me to the second point. The area has been redesigned and 'tweaked' for the motorist, without giving thought to the pedestrian, especially pedestrians with children.. If you do decide to walk across the road to B&M (a great store), you have to walk along pavement to the road - fantastic. You then have to dodge the traffic and walk through the main car entrance to the car park - there is no separate pedestrian entrance. There is no zebra crossing, subway or designated pedestrian crossing. Cars can use the road as a long racetrack, and the road is very wide, so dangerous if you're struggling with bags, buggies, kids and a deranged husband. Awful layout.

The main Tollgate shopping centre (as opposed to Tollgate West where Sainsbury's is) is located on both sides of a busy road - make sure you know before you go which side you want to park, because the carpark on the south side can be pretty hairy. There isn't much room for manoeuvre and it does get very busy at weekends. My top pick is Benson's for Beds (on the south side) which is an excellent if pricey place with friendly service. There is a Curry's on the north side, which can be useful, though the service in there is poor. The branch of Boots at Tollgate is poor - they rarely have what I go in for. There is a useful branch of Next on the south side, which has a good children's section. If you want beds or interiors in general, Tollgate is worth a visit. There is also a Homebase in the very near vicinity.

Lots of stores all around with parking and places for a quick lunch if you're out for longer than expected.
