I went yesterday as we had a voucher code for 50% off mains. I've noticed that whenever there is an offer on - standards slip, massively. Obviously I do understand it will be a lot busier but staff will of been made aware of the voucher in advance, so should be well prepared. We ordered 3 drinks to our table which took around 15 minutes to arrive at the table. We were already half way through our meal when they did arrive. If I'd of known I'd of just ordered them at the bar to save the inconvenience. The meat had so much fat on it, usually at other places the chef will cut the fat off and throw it in the bin but here they must think it's acceptable to put a piece of meat on someone's plate when it has 50% fat. The mac & cheese was dry. The roast potatoes was still hard in the middle, not fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside like they should be. The tables are really close together, and because I had a baby in a car seat it was impossible to move freely. So for this reason I wouldn't say it's a 'child friendly family pub' as I was constantly having to move for people getting past us. Surely there's a designated area for young families with prams/car seats? I did request this, however, I wasn't given this. I'm so glad I didn't pay full price, it wasn't even worth the half price in all fairness.
After the refurbishment I was looking forward to returning. Upon entering, we stood waiting at the desk for almost 10 minutes before a waitress came over to us to take us to our booked table. Whilst we were waiting a group of waitresses were stood, leaned on the bar, talking and looking out the window at the fireworks despite us stood waiting! The service was very slow, but the waitresses were friendly. The food was lovely and have definitely seen an improvement. Great value for money.
A lovely Sunday carvery. A great choice of meats and all cooked beautifully. If you like your meat a little more red, there was a choice with the beef and lamb. A great selection of desserts tho I was way too full to eat one! No cask ales were available but the Guinness was nice. Great value and highly recommend.
Lovely food. The lady serving the meat acted like she didn't want to be there, she could have tried to smile. Served the meat well though. Then I asked 2 members of staff for horseradish. The 1st never came back & the second said there was a scraping in the bottom of the bowl. When I said I knew but wanted it topping up,she went & filled it up. I wasn't the only person waiting. Everything else was fine. Parking: Plenty parking
Not bad for one of these place wise. Still tables all over the place set out but clean and pretty big. Staff were really good though especially the guy on the food counter who gave me some extra meat! One big down side is the speed hump going into the car park, great for scraping your exhaust on. Parking: Lots
I am a regular of Toby Carvery Huddersfield, all the staff are very helpful and friendly, always go the extra mile, the food is always lovely and your always met with a smile. Ruth is always happy to help and go out her way to make your visit enjoyable. Friendly, family atmosphere. Never had any problems would always recommend and return : Kid-friendliness: All staff are very good with kids
The food was good but as a vegan the waitress that served me was so rude she even snatched the menu off me! I asked her what vegan dessert I could have as the menu wasnt clear and she told me any with a V. I said no that’s vegetarian so please could u ask. She said no you can have the ones with the V. I said I came when the apple pie and custard was vegan is it still and she said you can have that then. I said it doesn’t say vegan on the menu so I can’t wait it. Then asked her to ask in the kitchen again but she refused. She just wanted me to have something vegetarian and she was so aggressive towards me. My family who come to Toby every week were shocked how she treated me! It’s lucky I didn’t say yes to the Vegetarian and then have a milk allergy to something and then blame Toby as she was trying to force me to have that. I’ve never been treated the way she treated me in any place I’ve eaten. She was a disgrace! She has anger issues and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only customer to have been treated to badly by her! Dietary restrictions: There needs to be better labels for the vegan options as the staff don’t know and could cause serious illness or upset to someone!
Having pre-booked we were a little early but still seated quickly. The Carvery was very full and we thought it might take a long time to get our food but we joined the queue and it was not too bad. The food was all very good, nicely cooked and a good variety of meats and vegetables. As anticipated the prices were higher than on our last visit a few months ago but still good value. Service was also good but of course with self service we did not require a lot of service help.
Not over busy but that's fine..what isn't fine was being sat bang next to the toilets.. constant traffic as you would expect, but being able to see clearly into the gents and disabled wasn't a good experience.. the occasional waft of someone's fecal matter isn't conducive to a good dining experience...Food: 5/5
Enjoyed the 50% off meals but disappointed when the barman told us there's no wine menu and brought bottles of different wines on the bar which we find it embarrassing and he can't price them individually until he checks on the till. With the wine menu it can give prices, what country they come from, and is it sweet or dry.... And what year. Sadly we have left him with no tip.
