Had a nice walk, coffee in the restaurant area very nice. Only one slight criticism is the coffee was quite expensive but nevertheless nice
Lovely place £5 to park all day. Had a meal in the restaurant very nice + a reasonable price. Plenty of places to sit + watch paddle boarders + canoeists. Though we didn't see any rubbish bins most people seemed to take their rubbish home. Will definitely go again when in the area
Curiously, this review has been requested after I stopped for a coffee after a walk around the reservoir ... which Google does not seem to acknowledge or be interested in! On the visitors centre, including toilets and gift shop: # Coffee and tea were fine; good selection of cakes / sweet treats! and hot meals available. Not cheap but not outrageous. Cheerful and friendly staff. # Very clean - and sustainable / energy efficient - toilets only used M! Lights only turn on when visitor is present; water dispensed from timer taps. Waste disposed directly into the nearest beach resort. Kid-friendliness: Impressive looking children's play area; cool kit that should keep them occupied for a while. Parking: Loads of parking, but you have to look hard and wide! for a fully working pay machine. Some machines only take cash £3 for 2 hours, £5 all day** but they are mostly not working. Card payment accepted at the last machine we found ... before we were going to give up! ** Our walk around the whole reservoir - no hanging around - took just about 2 hours, so I would be surprised if anyone buys that option! I bet Severn Trent could maximise revenue to bolster their struggling business with a bit more creativity and a few more fully working machines. Wheelchair accessibility: Step free, flat surface from car park into visitors centre.
Didn't have a good first experience. Parking charges are a little steep which is an off-put considering there isn't much to do here.. bit boring. Takeaway food wasn't very nice either, £3.30 for a sausage bap that wasn't even average. A tiny bit of butter and 1½ sausages. Wouldn't of minded if there was an effort put into the food or at-least decent food produce used. Lady on the counter had a attitude too, not very friendly at all. She didn't seem to like children either. Avoid.
Very good selection of breakfast, sandwiches, ice creams and cakes. I have tried the Vegetarian Breakfast and was delicious as the bacon and sausages are no-no because I am a good Christian. Leviticus 11:7-8 NKJV Great staff and it was nice seeing them trying their best to comply with social distances rules by one way system in place to serve the customers. Will come back soon for the vegetarian breakfast. And afternoon tea.
You need to pay for parking £3.00 for 2 hours or £5.00 for all day park, the machines take both cash or cards. The are walking paths, one is 1 mile and the other path is 4.3 miles around the reservoir. We chose to walk around the reservoir, some steep and uneven terrain. Some stunning view of the countryside and The Peak District I think. Today, of all days... it snowed, thanks to the tail end of Storm Ciara. After our walk around the reservoir, we dived straight into the Visitor Centre for some warmth and a bit of food but unfortunately their power was off and only half of the building was illuminated. We still managed to get a nice hot pot of tea and some hot food, the staff worked tirelessly to keep the restaurant going with limited access to power. The weather got worse, the snow kept coming down, thick and fast, the manager had no choice to close the restaurant before the untreated roads were impossible to drive home. I would like to come again when the weather is a little warmer and see some of the wildlife around the reservoir.
Some lovely walks around the reservoir. We planned on having lunch in the café but dogs were not welcome and there was nowhere to sit outside out of the weather.
Great place for getting that little bit closer to nature. Well marked out walking routes suitable for younger children. Great views of The Roaches and Hen Cloud. Enjoyed it.
Yesterday was my first visit - I was blown away by the whole overall experience! The setting was lovely - walking through the cute gift shop which we made multiple purchases from after breakfast - as they had lots that caught our eye and very well priced When we reached the Restaurant, we were greeted with a friendly smile and a polite waitress who showed us to a lovely table, with stunning views and we were clearly told how it worked - you order at the counter when you’re ready I hate it when you go to places and don’t know the system. I went to order and they were very accommodating with the tweaks I wished to make to our order to suit our requirements. It was early so quiet, but service was quick and efficient. The lady even made polite conversation and was interested in our plans, which made the experience feel more personal. They had plenty of options and very well priced. The Oatcake was delicious - the best I’ve ever had! 10/10! Throughout our time enjoying our breakfast we noticed how accommodating the staff were to all customers taking group photo’s, giving options on seating locations to suit best the party size and even noticing a family arrive outside and going out to greet them and sort seating for the children, again so efficiently. We asked for directions from the gift shop and the lady there was very helpful and informative aswell as assisting us in our purchases when we needed help getting the picture off the wall. The toilets were also clean & nice to use. The whole experience was superb and all the staff were absolutely wonderful! Thank you for starting our day so well! Can’t wait to visit again!
The cafe has amazing views and lovely cake, would highly recommend the long 4.5 walk around the water, we had 2 kids and a baby in a buggy and it was fab! We even had energy for the park at the end, great full day out! Parking is £5 for all day bargain for what the place has.
