The windows boast some impressive reviews from trip adviser and several reviews here seem very favorable too. We didn't quite feel it lived up to the high expectations. The food was solid, if unimpressive. The sauce was very good and clearly the best bit The meat was well done, if nothing special The vegetables where very simple and a bit bland. Overall not a bad place, but make sure to arrive early and eat from the cheaper "early dinner" menu. I am unsure if the place is worth the full price.
This was my 3rd visit to Tilleys Bistro. The food is always well cooked and very tasty. I love the idea of having a little of many dishes as It gives opportunity to try different dishes. My husband is very hard to please but still raves on about the wonderful food there. Red cabbage is out of this world. Never been disappointed.
We enjoyed quite a diverse and delicious menu this past Saturday night. My group has pretty high standards in taste, vibe, and service and we loved Tilley's. On top of that, I'm wheat free / gluten free and dairy free and they had so many great options for me and my friends didn't have to suffer! Very celiac friendly. We had a mix of small and large plates, which were all delightful. The leeks, the mushrooms, the garlic bread gluten free, homemade!, the duck, the John Dory, the chicken peanut satay skewers... Yum, writing this is making me hungry!
Tilley's Bistro is a welcoming and interesting restaurant that serves wonderful, wonderful food, complemented by fantastic wines. They hosted us for a birthday celebration for 15 people. The courses were well timed giving enough space between courses for talk to flourish and the appetite to recover. Everyone's food came out at the same time, was all hot and of great quality despite the large seating number for the size of the restaurant. The food was fantastic. The french onion soup is sublime. The service was excellent and the staff friendly.
There are far too many tables for the size of the kitchen, restaurant and wait staff. We didn't even notice that there was a basement when we booked the table - if the restaurant just had the double-fronted upper it would be about the right size. This was a retro dining experience in the worst possible way - unappetising food, carelessly served. I only assume they don't have much repeat business. I'm highly suspicious that some of the reviews below are 'sock puppet' reviews. It was pretty cheap, but we would have seen far better service + had a much nicer time going for a pizza!
We were ushered in to an restaurant a third under capacity and which remained so during our visit whilst being chivvied for not booking ahead. We let it fly as, yes, booking is preferable and polite. However, when we ordered, I was informed the pork could not be made as per the menu description and it would come in the sauce made to accompany the chicken. This was at half past six. This was pretty ridiculous and I bet those who did bother to book were just as confused. Did they run out, or just not bother making it on time? Who knows. The first course arrived, soup and a prawn/avocado medley. The soup was fine but the prawn dish was bland and pretty boring sadly. Next the mains were up and the chicken styled pork aside I'm told the chicken was tasty enough. The sides were fine but then who gets exited about broccoli and new potatoes? Hard to mess that up. The dessert was the next arduous task. We ordered a cheese board and chocolate pancakes. We received a cheese 'board' no butter, two types of cheese, grapes and crackers and a panna cotta. Their apology? "They do look similar on paper!". At this point having waited half an hour for dessert we were running late for an evening appointment and we couldn't enjoy the third course much at all having to ask them to bring and settle the bill almost as we were still chewing the final bites. All in all, disappointing to say the very least based on the favourable reviews around the web.
My husband surprised me on a date while we were in Bath for holidays. I am a vegetarian and the place had great choices for me. The atmosphere was great for a date night and the food was delicious. I am very happy that I went there.
My husband and I came to stay with my mother in law. We came for a meal on Thursday evening and had a beautiful food it was just lovely place thank you for a time
We got this recommendation for Rick Steve's and it was a solid recommendation. We really enjoyed this place. We highly recommend it to you if you are in Bath!
Loved this charming restaurant. I had the mushroom risotto and it was wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant.
