So before Gloucester I always went for Avis or Enterprise.  Never considered Thrifty - hate the name (is this the 1930s?) and the old looking logo/website.  Anyway Gloucester has no Avis, I used Enterprise twice & had bad experiences both times.  So tried Thrifty.  I've now rented from them five-ish times (most weekends since Jan), and I found them to be v helpful.  I returned one with some scratches - they did check with head office, but I was told later I wouldn't be charged.  They've always had the car ready, and when I was renting for a week went to a lot of effort to get the model I wanted (no guarantees, obviously).

Personally I thought the reviewer talking about being charged for "mysterious scratches" is pretty unfair.  You check the vehicle closely beforehand.  Anything that happens to it between then and you returning it is on you - however unfair/annoying that some other driver did it.  And my experience so far is that Thrifty weren't looking to find fault, in my case they were relaxed.

Great hassle free service. A few minor issues with booking which were quickly resolved.

Hired a van for four hours charged for a full day. £29-30. On return a scratch was found on the wing mirror, all very mysterious, as it wasn't done by us. £65 they are taking from the deposit. Be prepared to pay a lot more than the advertised rate. Nearly £100 to move a couple of sofas. Thanks for that.
