Story

The White Hart Hotel is a traditional old posting house at the centre of the small moorland town of Moretonhampstead set within the spectacular Dartmoor National Park.

The Hotel dates back to 1639 and this historic Grade II listed building is being sympathetically refurbished to provide all modern comforts within a traditional setting. Our comfy sofa-filled lounge has a roaring log fire where you can relax and combine the delights of a traditional cream tea with the convenience of free wi-fi.

An ideal base from which to explore this beautiful area of Devon, the White Hart has 20 well-appointed bedrooms in the main hotel and a further eight in a separate mews building.

Our restaurant features the freshest local, seasonal produce cooked in a style that lets the quality of the ingredients speak for themselves. A free house, we stock a range of local real ales and have a hand-picked wine list.

Lunch in the restaurant is available from 12.00pm till 2.15pm and dinner from 6.pm till 8.30pm. Sunday lunch from 12.30 till 2.15pm.

Dartmoor is great walking country and dogs are welcome everywhere in the hotel, except in the dining room.

We arrived with exactly zero loose change for the car park, forcing us into a tense, high-stakes showdown with a dreaded parking app. Fortunately, we can’t blame the hotel for that modern-day ordeal!n​The hotel itself was fantastic—super quirky and incredibly easy to find. The staff were wonderfully welcoming, as were the locals in the bar, which gave the place a great atmosphere. Everything was spotless, and the food was both delicious and reasonably priced.n​The only real struggle was the bed. It was softer than a marshmallow at a campfire, which didn't quite suit our backs—though to be fair, that’s just our personal preference.n​All in all, a lovely stay. Just bring your coins or your smartphone patience!
We visited on the weekend of the towns music festival, the place was bouncing. We had a very good meal in the bar. Our new puppy Sidney loved every minute of his visit. Lots of nice countryside for walkers.

During a 16 night stay in our touring caravan, Moretonhampstead being the closest small town for us. The White Hart is quite possibly one of the nicest places we visited during our time away.nWhere to start? Staff, extremely helpful and very friendly, James the owner always seemed to be there, boots on the ground, serving drinks and meals, always time for a chat.nAmbience, very tasteful decor, everything to a very high standard, decorated with flair and in keeping with the delightful building.nFood, we ate here three times, one meal being Sunday lunch, the best roast dinner we have had in a very long time. Hot, perfectly cooked meats and vegetables and gravy granny would be proud of!nJames and his partner should be very proud of what they have achieved with this beautiful hotel, bar and restaurant. Big bonus is dogs are very welcome even in the restaurant!
Fabulous! Staff are lovely. Food excellent. Rooms are great. Nice atmosphere and great prices. Could not be more dog friendly. Highly recommended. Been before and definitely be back
