Excellent food and service - much more deserving of a higher rating. The scampi was exceedingly fresh, the salad was not dressed to excess and the flatbread had a wonderful crisp and flavourful crust and sauce. Not to mention a lovely decor.
We stopped by this place recently after our trip to boxhill. The entrance looked inviting, it is a pet friendly place and had friendly staff. Unfortunately, their kitchen was closed so we had to be content with drinks from the pub. The interiors are tasteful and I loved the traditional, old school look and feel. There even have a fire place. Will be back some day to try their food.
Perfect for walking, eating and spending great time with your friends or family!!! Very nice environment, location and atmosphere! Lovely food and drinks!
Nice stop over after a trek in Box Hill. Unfortunately kitchen is currently shut at present. A quiet place to socialise with friends. Lovely hot chocolate does the trick to keep kids busy. Dogs are welcome.Service: 4/5
Very local and very easy. Relaxed atmosphere with a very friendly service. They were comparatively empty for Sunday afternoon but there's plenty of place to sit and enjoy your drinks. Location is perfect for a break from Box Hill hike. Plenty of parking. The fireplace made it even better.Service: 5/5
This is a great pub, it's changed hands and names over the past fifty years. I remember when it was called The Hand in Hand and it was a traditional old style pub with great food. It's changed ownership and style over the years, when it became The Tree, a gastro style pub, but ironically the food wasn't as good when it was a traditional style pub. Now it's changed ownership and is managed by the amiable Kyle with great drinks, coffees and snacks. Alas. It's glory days was when it was The Hand in Hand, but it's still a good pub to visit after a long walk around Box Hill.
Absolutely love this Pub! We have been going to the tree for a couple of years now. Staff are lovely, food is great! Service is EXCELLENT! Love the fact that there is a climbing frame with a slide in the garden which keep the kids busy. A wonderful walk around Box hill and stop for lunch @TheTree! Its cosy , dog friendly and the toilets are always clean.
A friend recommended the Tree on box hill and I'm so glad she did , what a lovely welcoming place, the atmosphere was buzzing , family friendly, dogs are very welcome too , the staff could not do enough for you, my bestie and I had the carvery, it was delicious the roast beef was cooked to perfection, I've worked in fine dining and know my stuff when it comes to food, and i can honestly tell you, the roast beef is the best I've tasted in a very long time it melted in my mouth . unfortunately, I couldn't fit a pudding in I was stuffed . I will be back though for sure, I saw the burger go past it looked amazing stacked with cheese oozing out of the bun . what a great place I will definitely be a regular visitor they do live entertainment, hold parties weddings, Mmmm and my total favourite afternoon tea . See you very soon re photo the plate says it all
Good size garden but screaming kids meant we couldn't enjoy being outdoors. Picnic tables in poor condition but usable. Ordered drinks and food from the bar - selection of starters. Staff were smartly dressed and initially helpful. Food arrived in a reasonable time and was okay, nothing special. Had to find cutlery and condiments ourselves. Went back to the bar to order more drinks and some main courses. Stood there for 10 minutes and then gave up waiting to be served, so we left and went elsewhere. They were not busy but the barman was so slow and both he and the manager opted to serve others locals/regulars? ahead of me, even though they could see that I was waiting before the others. Loved our walk at Box Hill, but will not be returning to this pub any time soon.
Great location for food following a run, walk or cycle around Box Hill. The food is excellent and there’s a large fire that’s very welcome at this time of year. It’s a lovely pub with plenty of space and a good food and drink menu. However, the service is a little haphazard - friendly but disorganised.
