Mixed to be honest. You can get a really good cup it tea here, brewed how you like and proper milk. Also had a deep fried battered Cadbury's cream egg which was fantastic. You can get battered mars bars etc as well. Would check it out for this. The fish and chips however was a bit oiley and the chips weren't that crispy you can also get other fish. Salmon . Monk fish but wasn't battered . We would pop back - strangely for a 3 rating, yes we would to get a good cuppa and the staff are very friendly. Regards
#Fish&Chips best fish and chips in town. Even though got one of my orders wrong.That does not happen often still the one to go for fish and chips. Quite busy and a wait sometimes. But worth it. Give it a try, recommended.
I don't like placing bad reviews, but this is the last place I would visit for a meal. I ordered a battered sausage, fish cake and standard chips. The chips were nearly grey in colour, very dry and hard, the sausage was not nice at all and the fish cake quickly headed for the bin. How you are still in business is a surprise to be honest. I hope this was just a one off but reading some other reviews I don't think that this is the case. On the plus side the staff are polite and friendly.
The fish got so bored sat on the hot shelf dehydrating it ate half my chips, the fish was of good size making up for the lack of chips, but sadly the fish was chewy like fish toffee for the most part and needed a good lot of sauce to get down my throat. Ordered two slices of bread and got one, so the service didn't outshine the food, at one star I've been more than generous unlike the chip portion.
The lady taking money also served the food. Hardly hygienic. She was extremely grumpy. She advised a large portion for my son and I to share - £8 and it could hardly feed my 6 year old. Greasy and the chips semi hard. Used to be so much better. I should have realised when I went in and it was empty. We won't be going again.
A well managed fish and chip shop with pleasant staff who are always polite and helpful. They do a jumbo cod which could get the starring role in a Jaws movie its that big. the jumbo cod is a bit pricey but then its a once in a blue moon treat. Everything I've ever had from there has been cooked to perfection and I have never had any complaints.
Has got to be the worst chip shop I have ever visited. Chips look like cooked rotten potatoes, batter smashes to bits when you try and cut it because its so hard. Waiting area is filthy when you take a proper look, portions are stingy, staff didnt understand I wanted a plain sausage and a battered sausage. Dished it for my kids who both refused to eat it, and I dont blame them. They supposedly win awards for their place. Utter nonsense, I would never visit this place again unless its to get a refund, which im waiting to hear on. Minus 10 stars!!!!!!!
Smallest portions of chips I've ever seen! I've seen children's portions of chips at other chip shops that are larger than the large portion of chips at the Basingstoke Trawlerman. Plus, they charge £2.90 for it. The fish and other things are normally okay, but overall the cost is too high for the quantity and quality.
Our favourite fish and chips in the area, do the best saveloy too, my favourite is the jumbo cod, it seems to have got smaller over the years, pretty sure the first time I had one it was the same length as the distance from my elbow to fingertips, but still, plenty for one person to feast on
Went in here for some lunch and decided to sit in, ordered 2 cod and chips, a latte and a cappuccino, staff friendly enough, however the drinks came and it was 2 cappuccinos instead of a latte, quick to resolve, then 2 lots of people walked in 10mins after me and my partner and they got their food first after 15 mins of us waiting we were not happy, my partner asked where the food was and was told it was already taken to us which it was not, there were fish in the heat cabenit when we walked in and also when we complained, again quick to resolve however we asked for a refund and left and went to subway due to waiting long enough for food. Sorry to have to say this was very poor experience.
