Story

We believe The Speckled Hen is the oldest pub in County Antrim dating back to 1660. If so it is the second oldest in N.Ireland. It is reputed to be the fifth oldest in the whole of Ireland. The pub was immortalised in a 1939 cigarette card collection commissioned by the Willis Tobacco company. It is rumoured the ghost of a previous owner, Johnston Bell, is an occasional nocturnal visitor.
It is said the great Irish Statesman Daniel O'Connell stopped at the pub during trips to Belfast. The pub has its own brewery and a beer garden. There is off street parking and free WiFi.

The speckled hen has to be one of the best places to eat in Belfast. Every single meal I've had here has been incredible! The drinks and cocktails are delicious and the staff are always so lovely. We eat here not only for all our special occassions but for a quick bite to eat anytime! Love love love! Please try the hen if you haven't already, you wont regret it!

Lovely Sunday lunch here. Great food. Friendly professional service. Reasonably priced. Still has some wine left was able to go outside and sit and finish it amongst the lovely plants and water feature. What a cracking place love it

1st time there and would go back . Beautiful food and facilities in very picturesque surroundings . Plenty of parking and it has a Bar also . The staff were very friendly and professional.  I would recommend this place

I didn't wait to dine in. I had booked the table for 16.30, and one of my guests was an American visitor so i wanted to take her to an old pub with history. We were party of 3 seated at a table practically on top of the people at the table next to us, yet there were plenty of empty tables. The menu was abysmal & when i asked could we have a table in the restaurant when it opened at 5 we were told all the tables were booked. The young man behind the bar was very pleasant but the waitress was anything but pleasant. I have been to this place several times over the years but i will never be back.  The date was 07/05/22

Tried this place for the first time the other night, I was definitely impressed, lovely looking place inside and out and parking area is also avaliable, all staff were very helpful and the food was beautiful, there guest beer was lovely and would recommend to try but one other beer they had on the menu was quite dear compared to normal £5 for a pint of sulivans, prices also were to raise that I noticed on a sign in the bar area, other than this I would highly recommend, this would be a lovely place to sit outside in the summer.
