Another little gem in Middlesbrough. While very small this place is so friendly and inviting. The staff were so nice and really know their beers which was great for someone like me who was new to English craft beers. Definitely a place to visit if you like a good beer in a nice atmosphere.
Really nice place, but £4.60 for a pint is one thing but £2.65 for a half is taking the Micky equivalent of £5.30 for a pint. Not all of us can drink pints anymore, so this is discrimination. I’m minded to take this up formally.
Fantastic micro pub and Hop House Lager..
Hilariously tiny pub. Great if you can catch it early in the night before it gets packed. Once it starts to fill up which means about 10-15 people it can become fairly uncomfortable as you're either blocking the front door, the stairs to the toilet, the bar etc. And if a couple has an argument the whole place feels awkward.
Ordered a pint and it was very cloudy, far more than just a haze - as thick as pudding. I politely took it back and was abruptly told it was a fresh cask and it was supposed to be like that. Absolute rubbish - that's what you used to get in the 1970's. No point in arguing I thought - it was match day and the place was busy. I just left the drink and walked out to the bar over the road as did a group behind me who overheard all this. I have been brewing beer for 35 years; have been a camra member since 1978 and part own a multi beer free house so I am not ignorant about beer. I am fully aware of all the pitfalls around cask beers and it can go wrong from time to time but just have the good grace to change the beer and not give a customer a cock and bull story. I did subseqently check the website of the brewery involved just to be sure that the beer was not naturally cloudy and there was no mention of this.
Trendy micro pub with a quirky interior on Baker Street. Often live music at the weekend. Small but good range of premium kegged beers and a couple of casks.
Worst experience I have ever had whilst being in Middlesbrough. My friends were forced out of the door for no reason. The only reason I can come up with is that there was more than 10 of us. When I asked the middle aged woman behind the bar what had happened she said you need to leave you are on CCTV. I had done nothing wrong and neither had my friends they forced us against our will to leave the premises with no reason what so ever. One of my friends was grabbed by the women and shoved out the door. The owner grabbed a bottle and tried to smash it over my boyfriends head, luckily one of his friends managed to stop him from doing so otherwise this whole ordeal could have taken a turn and my boyfriend could have ended up in hospital. I am disgraced the way the staff here have treat me and my friends. I will be letting all my family and friends know about this horrid experience so we all never return there again. I am horrified.
Small and friendly, good selection of ales and porters, recommend you try before you order a full pint some of tgem are an acquired taste. Good atmosphere.
"We never have any problems like this, its always the customer fault" Mmm, see below from other Owner.. Spence Matthew - Hi I’m part owner of the Buisness the Slaters Pick.. I’m sorry on behalf of my Buisness partner.. Mark waters he has a attitude problem and a lack of communication skills when it come to customers.. I’ve actually had enough of his attitude as well I’m constantly getting told about his behaviour.. seeing this is appalling and all I can do is apologise on his behalf and hope this won’t effect your future visits to our bar..
Lovely helpful staff with great sense of humour, lovely quirky surroundings, good atmosphere, liked the funk, mowtown music choice...different craft beers and ciders to try, good a for a quiet natter during the week evenings..could imagine it being a good buzz when busy...more appealing to trendy types...clean and welcoming......great for a first time vistor to Middlesbrough..
