Had a lunch with my family there today. We were delighted with our burgers. That was the best burger that I had here in Ireland! Loved chips too. Nice restaurant with comfy feeling, staff are nice and professional. Definitely coming back.
We stayed here in early September, so this is a review of the lodging, not the restaurant/pub. I want to rate it higher but one major thing dropped the rating for me. If you get a room in the half of the hotel closer to the reception desk/entrance, don't plan to get any sleep between midnight-2am local time most nights. That's when the pub/restaurant staff close down the venue and slam carts, doors, trays, etc around like it's a demolition derby. One main reasons we chose a hotel over in the Ballsbridge area was to avoid excessive noise like you would get if you stayed closer to Temple Bar or another central city area. I don't know what the hotel can do about this, if anything, but it was a real issue during the week we were there. If you stay here, try to get a room on the east side of the hotel, maybe, to possibly avoid this issue I also heard the hotel recently changed management, so some things seemed to be in transition, including some posted signs, staff, etc. That being said, we didn't hate it. The room itself was comfortable, the bathroom was in good shape, the bed comfortable, and overall the room was clean and presentable. The staff was overall friendly and helpful, and we really liked the location on Grand Canal and it's proximity to transit and walkable destinations & restaurants/pubs, shops, historic sites, parks, etc.
The setting is nice and I sat outside with my girlfriend. We were ignored by all staff for an hour despite having menus on our table. We had to go inside ourselves for drinks. Eventually when someone came over they told us the kitchen was closed. Really poor service. The place looks so nice so I'm really disappointed.
Lovely county house. Internet access wasn't great—TV with limited channels. It was hard to find a place in the dark as it was off the main road. I love to come back during the summer to be able to walk around the garden.Rooms: 4/5
Stopped in on day of Ireland v Springboks it was busy but under control due to the fact that’s well run and staff are well organized and polite. Ordered a vegetarian cannelloni it was excellent and considering the day that was in it we were thrilled to get such a hearty meal.
Great location for a drink and a chat. The staff area always super friendly and helpful. The only negative would be the cost of the food offerings here.
Wouldn’t go back to schoolhouse hotel or recommend it. Staff were rude and less than help full, paid for extra continental breakfast in the pre booking then when arrived they stated it only included the porridge and to pay extra for the fry. We arrived late off a 4 hour 4 to the hotel and Didn’t offer us anything regarding food as the kitchen “just closed” They took our card details 3 times for some strange reason, when we booked it online, then again when we arrived they took an payment for the room then again when we were leaving they took another payment but said they will refund the second payment? How does that make any sense like just take the payment for the room instead of taking it then refunding it and taking it again. Room was dirty, marks all over the wall. We went to watch rugby and they stayed we could leave our bags in safe location, when they say safe location they mean in the middle of the reception where everyone has access to them. Literally only good thing about the hotel was it was around the corner from the Aviva but if I was going to dublin again I’d rather a tent.
What can I say, we are returning customers. 3rd time staying here because its a lovely little hotel with a nice bar and amazing food. Walking distance from everywhere we need. Museums, Grafton Street, Stephens Green and Ballsbridge.Rooms: 5/5
They have 4-coursr fixed menus for groups which is usually much cheaper than a la carte selection. We had great service as a big group! The food was great as expected. They have fantastic #mocktails too.Rooms: 5/5
Terrible table service, waitress got the order wrong twice. It was a Christmas/leaving late lunch and drinks, when booking we explained that it was for 6 people and we wanted the table to circa 7.30, a waiter came at 5.15 to say did we want our bill. We tried explain whatnwe had booked. The manager was rude in explaining that the tables were for 2 hrs only. The place was only half full we said we would be gone by 7 but they wanted the tables back and wanres us to leave. Poor service, poor Management. Av oid if possible
