Story

The Scallop Shell is an award winning fish and chip restaurant and seafood grill restaurant in Bath. We serve up traditional favourites like lightly battered, flaky cod and haddock and seasonal delights from the early morning coastal markets. Our chips are peeled and freshly cut from the best seasonal spuds and prepared daily for you in our beautiful spud room.

The Scallop Shell is driven by a passion for seafood from Garry Rosser, who returned to the city where his career as a chef began when he opened the Scallop Shell in 2015. Now occupying two floors and a beautiful terrace, The Scallop Shell is open for lunch and dinner.

The food here was really delicious. We did the lunch special of cod fillet with chips, mushy peas, bread and butter, and tea for £10. It was definitely the best fish and chips I have ever had. The ambience and decor was fantastic as well. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to enjoy a break and some lunch from the cold in picturesque Bath.

Delicious fish and chips. A must try in Bath! Fresh products of the highest quality and an excellent wine list. Friendly staff, good service with attention for detail and no delays. I definitely will go back when I am around

Divine. In my opinion, this is the best seafood restaurant for miles around (certainly better than the offerings in Bristol) and the price is perfectly reasonable as well. The seafood (from our scallops, squid and mussels for starters to the hake, ling and seafood stew for main course) was all cooked to perfection with very generous portion sizes (if anything they could afford to cut back on the size!) and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed with plenty of color and vibrancy to the decor. Brilliant. The only slightly weird thing was the fact that the waiting staff don't take your order at the table, insisting multiple times that only one person from our table was allowed to go to the till to order for all of us. We've never had to appoint a Trusted Keeper of The Order in a restaurant before...

We were told to visit this place as it had one of the best fish and chips in the city. And they certainly do. We asked for the haddock and the fish was soft and the portion was really abundant. I didn't know that fried fish could taste like that. But the waiter kept talking to my coworker (who happened to be a man) and wouldn't even look at me. I felt completely ignored, as if I didn't even knew what I wanted to eat and I would need someone else (a man) to decide for me. I didn't know that male chauvinism could still range so high.

Boasts to be celiac friendly, but was not able to serve me. Also, the woman at the counter was extremely rude. The man who greeted me told me it would be an hour wait and I agreed to wait for an hour. When the woman found out I would wait, she was not pleased. She then threw a mini tantrum, threw her hands up and said “where will you wait? You have no where to wait!” I said I could stand. Then, she repeatedly went around to servers complaining about how I was just standing at the door. Overall awful experience.
