The Royal Hop Pole
"Seen from the front, the building is in three parts: the central section has an ornate portico, dating from 1921, having replaced a wide gateway leading to the yard and stables at the rear. Above the portico is the royal coat of arms of Princess Mary of Teck, later Queen Mary, royal consort to George V. The hotel was given permission to display the royal arms after the princess's 1891 visit, since when it has been called The Royal Hop Pole."

This place is heaven on earth! An old coaching inn, beautifully kept in keeping with its origins and beautifully maintained beer gardens on the banks of the river Avon . It is at the heart of a small town with the most beautiful minster, which is worth a visit. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is good and hot, and the beer is reasonably priced. The staff are lovely and accommodating, and I couldn't praise the place highly enough. The picture is sunset from the beer garden!!
Stopped here for food on our journey home. I received a parking fine for using the car park. I purchased a ticket from the machine, but it turns out the car park is divided in two. Half is the pub's and the other half the Council's. I didn't realise this and purchased a ticket for the council side, but parked in the pub side. We aren't local so won't be back. The food was average, but the service was good. Food & drinks: Cheap, average, pub grub.
I spent a very pleasant couple of hours here on a cold June evening ! after a concert at the nearby Tewkesbury Abbey. Very friendly staff and good unfussy food. The locals seemed a friendly bunch too. Very enjoyable.Service: 5/5
The best wetherspoons I've visited. The food was excellent, and the service was great. A massive beer garden and smoking & non-smoking defined areas, which was good. Would definitely visit again. Didn't stay in the rooms so can't comment on those.Service: 5/5
We had a quick stopover in Tewkesbury to visit the Cathedral while on our way to Stonehenge. Could not believe just how flooded the area was and had been over the past few weeks Looking for a friendly place to have a relaxing evening in we found this place and Without a doubt it's one of the best Wetherspoons we have had the pleasure to visit. Lovey building with lots of History Great fast efficient service from polite and pleasant staff. Plenty of areas to sit in with a very mixed aged clientele you just need to have a quick walk through to see for yourself and then decide where you are going to be sitting. Lots of outside areas. Price wise it's a Wetherspoons so always good value for branded drinks Food looked good and very well presented. Tables cleared and cleaned quickly. This time we only popped in for a drink however we will be returning for a meal when we are back in the area.
Historical building in a great location in the centre of town. Nice little bedroom with a good firm mattress. Staff were excellent and very friendly. Stuart went above and beyond to help me when I realised on Sunday evening that I had forgotten my cufflinks. He went back to his house to collect some of his and let me borrow them. What a hero.
Probably one of the best located Spoons I've ever been in. The gardens go right down to the river Avon. Lots of space outside with plenty of tables/benches. Situated in the centre of Tewkesbury, this is an ideal spot for a drink and a meal, or an overnight stay, plus it's very close to the Abbey. The food, drink and service were impeccable on our visit. Establishment kept clean, including the toilets. Highly recommended.
The Royal Hop Pole is a lovely old hotel in the middle of Tewksbury and near the river so that you are near all the important parts of the area. The original building has been around for centuries and you can tell by the interesting old architecture. The restraunt down below has a very large menu for cheap prices. Especially since many of the hot drinks coffee, hot chocolate etc. Give infinite free refills. The overall service and staff were also quick and helpful. The room I stayed in was a good seize and they also gave a lot of free snacks and drinks at the room. The only cons are that it did have a musty smell to it and after a few flushes my room's toilet stopped being able to flush. That might be an isolated incident or something to do with the wider system, I don't know. Overall 4 stars though.
I love this place to go and have something to eat. The best part is that in the food price you can choose a drink too, or for a bit extra an alcoholic drink. Food is nice too. And if it is nice outside beautiful back garden is waiting for you.Service: 5/5
Stopped for dinner here there's a disabled access to the side but does smell a bit as it's an alleyway. The meal was quickly delivered to the table using the app and the pub WiFi. Table that was vacaced was quickly reset. Really enjoyed and extra points for offering a bowl of water for the assistance dog!Service: 5/5
