The Rowantree hosted our whole wedding, including the ceremony, and we had an incredible experience. The venue has so much character, the team were incredibly organized and friendly and everything ran unbelievably smooth. Thanks again everyone.
We had our wedding here and can not say enough good things about this venue and team. They went well above our expectations and were so helpul, patient, professional and friendly. We planned our wedding from Canada and only saw the venue the day before all communication was over the phone and through email. Everything went smoothly, The Food was Divine and we had the most amazing time. Thank You
Beautiful venue, such friendly staff. Can't wait to get married here next year!
We had our wedding here last December. At first, it was the amazing customer service of Caroline and Lisa that sold us the venue. I had to send a lot of emails with so many questions & Caroline was so patient and helpful. However, somewhere down the line, we were appointed Amy as our wedding co-ordinator. I am sorry to say, that Amy had the worst customer service skills that I have ever experienced. She wasn’t just bad, it actually appeared that she LIKED to be as unhelpful and difficult as possible. Her responses to my emails were so passive aggressive it was unbelievable. I even asked to speak to Caroline instead or anyone else and she refused. For example, when previously speaking to Caroline about lighting options - I had shown a photo with lighting that I liked. This was in house lighting, so would be available to use free of charge. However when I confirmed this with Amy closer to the date she said they could only provide the bright white lighting and anything else I would need to pay an external company for. Having contacted the company for a quote they were confused as this was in house lighting. When I contacted the venue about this, Amy was on holiday, so I got to speak to Caroline again who assured me that the lighting I wanted was free, available in house and I did not need to pay a lighting company. However after confirmed this again, the day before the wedding Amy told us that out of the several about 10 lighting colours available literally from clicking a button - we watched her do this she would only allow us to choose from two - not including the colour we asked for. At this point we just gave up and went for the closest available. When we visited the venue the day before the wedding to drop off the supplies, we notice that above the stage, where the ceremony would take place was a balcony with a glass side. This glass was filthy. Not just dusty, or smeared - although it was both - but so vile that it looked as if dried vomit had been smeared over it. This was visible - and very obvious from the stage, so we would have been looking at it during the ceremony, and the two tables on the stage during dinner would have also been looking at it. Now, naturally the venue is not going to be spotless in a cave, there is dust and debris everywhere but it adds character and I am no where near OCD when it comes to cleanliness but it was awful. Made worse by the back light shining through the glass lighting it up! I wish I had taken a photo. My husband and I assumed the venue had not yet been cleaned after an event, and mentioned it to Amy double checking that it would be cleaned for our ceremony. Amy then acted as though we were being over the top, said it would NOT be cleaned and that no one else had ever requested it before! I hope that is not the case but I doubt it. We were shocked but she confirmed it would not be cleaned - and said all this in the most snide and passive aggressive manner. Having been the only one emailing Amy at this point, I think my husband had thought I had been exaggerating about Amy’s behaviour - however now he had experienced it first hand and he was shocked. He sent an email asking for it to be cleaned so that we had proof and Amy could not pretend the request had not been made. And thank goodness, after walking down the aisle we looked up and it had been cleaned. On the day of our wedding Amy was their as our co-ordinator and did not speak to us once. Before the ceremony we were alone in the room and she was there so the opportunity was there! and she did not greet us. She did not speak to us at all, and did not say goodbye. Our flower confetti was not laid out on the barrels outside as agreed - they were on the bar still in the box I sent them in with my post it note instructions! I had to lay them out myself. Also the guest book was hidden so I had to go around with the book myself at the end of the day to ask people to sign it. I do recommend this venue but do NOT allow Amy to be your co-ordinator unless you want a bad time. She ruined the whole experience.
I was at a large company event there; the music was too loud for such an enclosed space and the dinner service was very disorganized even per the amount of people. Definitely better for small to mid sized parties, and the venue itself is nice
Popped in before a Fringe show in one of the other caves. Had a lovely grapefruit cider which I'd never seen or heard of, only 2.5% which was good to start the day, and very refreshing. Not sure who was in charge of the music but it was a cracking ecclectic mix of good tunes. Really liked the stripped back thick af stone walls, still feat holes for candles which were still in use! Well worth a visit.
I went to my nieces wedding reception here and the venue is really nice. It has an old rustic feel but with very modern facilities and really great staff. A hog roast was provided which was amazing we had a really good night. Would recommend!
Lovely venue. Starter and main meal lovely but sadly the worst desert ever. The chefs attempt to Scottish up his desert on burns night turned the desert into a stodgy bad tasting wet cereal splodge. Although I enjoyed my visit and food was nice I would recommend no one orders the chefs horrible oat cranachan cheesecake.
Great atmosphere and decent food but very inflexible when organising an event. Numbers locked in 7 days in advance. Could not add a couple of extra people 4 working days out. 3% charge on debit or credit card payments. Wanted to change our whole event schedule to suit the kitchen. Its a shame as staff were good but there are better places in Edinburgh for an event that make it easier for the organisers.
Held my daughters wedding there. A quirky and very unique venue for corporate events and weddings.
