Lovely spa and an unexpected treat to have discovered tucked away in a rural location near Great Dunmow, Essex. Lovely staff and facilities. Excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all areas of these facilities. Hot tub, sauna in the private garden are a must have when visiting. Would be a great place for small groups to celebrate a special occasion..

Such a lovely place with great treatments & friendly staff, who go above & beyond to make your visit special & memorable. I have visited the retreat on many occasions for luxury pedicures, which have always been amazing, but recently opted for an Indian head massage & reflexology with the lovely Natalie. Wow..what a wonderful experience! It was honestly the best Indian head massage I have ever had in any spa. It was a thorough treatment incorporating neck & shoulders & face. It was so relaxing & I felt any stress & tension just drift away. Just when I thought it was coming to an end, Natalie would continue on another area. It was true bliss! Afterwards, I had my first experience with reflexology. Natalie is very knowledgable in reflexology & explained the process in detail. She was very insightful in explaining what she had found afterwards, which correlated to issues I was having which I did not disclose to her prior to treatment. I had a very positive & enjoyable experience from both treatments, I highly recommended Natalie & very much look forward to my next visit.

I've been here a few times but, our last visit was horrific and the response was the most disappointing of all.  We arrived for a birthday treat that id organised months previously is even checked the day before so there were no hitches. On arrival,  there was no heating their later response was that they'd provided blankets! The plug in radiators were no good the place was freezing - I kept my coat on!. We then found out that there was no WiFi, no access to the bookings,  no music either. They split our group of 3 and so 1 sat alone whilst the others had both treatments. They ran out of time for the third persons treatments and rushed their nails which were then wet to pay and drive - consequently this was all removed because they smudged.  The lack of background music meant we listened to staff ordering pizzas in reception - we had to cancel our food because they ran out of time to serve it.  The staff are generally lovely but,  the management and their response was awful and despite issuing a refund I couldn't recommend this place. A real shame.  They'd known about the heating a week previously and said nothing,  they'd advised 90min  for our group but put us in a 3 hour slot for treatments we hadn't booked.

I visited today to use the spa garden with friends and absolutely loved it. The salon itself it's lovely and the spa garden is beautiful. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. I own a salon myself and i honestly couldn't fault The Retreat. I'll certainly be back to experience the treatments and also the garden again, as well as recommending this little hidden gem to others  thanks for a lovely evening!
