Friends and I visited here for my birthday meal; the food was great, with generous portion sizes and a good variety of options. The sharing platters for starters were very good, although the homemade bread and butter was something of a disappointment (perhaps because it was so highly praised upon delivery to the table; expectations were perhaps a little high for what it was). It was a shame that this was also served with the camembert, as crusty bread is always better for this. The steak was cooked to perfection, as were the other mains, and whilst the dessert my husband and I shared was very good (chocolate tart), the sticky toffee pudding my friend had was very dry and a little disappointing. Having said that, the overall impression was very good, and we would definitely return. It is particularly nice that everything is sourced locally where possible, and that they serve their own beer, which was exceptional. They were very knowledgeable about which ales compliment which dishes.

Really nice local atmosphere and a great meal. Definitely our highlight of the visit in the town. Friendly staff and an excellent menu. Recommended for dinner.

A firm favourite pub for many many years. Excellent range of ale on offer (as a micro brewery), lovely snacks and gin. I'm aware their food is supposed to be excellent but have yet to have had any because I'm usually there for the ale or a beer festival. Most recent visit was for the winter beer festival which did not dissapoint. Lovely heated tent, great selection of beer, friendly staff and fun live music. Thoroughly reccomended!
