We had decided to arrive just before noon opening time. It was a hot and beautiful morning, and knowing how popular this venue is, needed to ensure an inside table. Parking is free for three hours, provided you register your car at the pub within twenty minutes of arriving. We were offered a table adjacent to a window overlooking the River Deben. Just what we hoped for, and lucky to get. Booking is for inside tables only. There are about fifteen outside tables that are on a first come first served basis. The staff are efficient at polite. Bottled cold water was delivered without invitation, which was needed, considering the heat. I chose the seafood salad, and my wife chose sea bass. It was not possible to complain about either dish. Each of the items of seafood tasted as they should. I was assured by the restaurant manager that all the ingredients in are fresh, hence the flavour. My wife complimented the manager on the quality of the fish. After the meal we wandered outside to enjoy the riverside environment, and look at the horses that had been bought there by their riders for a rest.
A lovely place to finish after a circular walk with the family. We sat on a bench by the water with our picnic and then popped to the pub for a drink. It was very quiet on a midweek afternoon despite the favourable weather.Service: 5/5
Excellent pub and food. Lovely spot for sitting by the river watching the boats bobbing on the water. So quiet, no car noise at all. Very friendly staff, big welcome when you enter and they guide you to fill out their car registration form if you have driven so you have 3 hours free parking. The food menu wasn’t extensive but it was lunchtime. The food however was incredible, well presented, tasty and the service was attentive and friendly. This would have been five stars the only thing that let them down was the tables outside needed staining/ rubbing down , hopefully this will be done. If I could give 4 and 1/2 I would. Recommend a visit if you are out this way.
Excellent food and service. We were lucky with the weather. Enjoyed sitting at the table featured in the film Yesterday.Food: 4/5
Out of the way pub down by the river. Lovely location and had it on my bucket list for ages. Reasonable to good service, 3 hours parking free must log in on arrival. Winter mulled wine. Had Fish ‘Pie’ which was tasty and filling but if that was a pie I’m not a Greek Welshman! Big dollop of nice mash with a mountain of garden peas floating on seafood, swimming in a nice but watery white sauce. Very strange…I think the waitress said ‘ looks a bit wet!’ Summer time I guess the place is rammed. It was full on Substitute Christmas Day. Worth booking by phone to get a riverside table if inside. You can arrive by boat and tie up on the jetty if you’re in the vicinity and happen to have a boat in tow. A good relaxing experience.
Superb location on the river shore. The food is reliable and served inside in chilly weather and outside in expansive terrace when the weather is fine. This pub is miles from anywhere - a lovely location from which there are great walk with excellent views.
Such a lovely place to go for lunch right by the river. Bit of a drive but well worth the trip. The food is very good and the service too, staff friendly and dogs welcomeFood: 5/5
Lovely meal watching the sun dip across the beautiful river. Such a friendly management and staff. Highly recommended
A great pub in a perfect location - it's quite remote, but whether you're a walker or cyclist, in a car or on a boat, it's a great place to head for. Beautiful views of the river to enjoy with your food and drink. Always recommended whatever the time of year.Food: 5/5
Visited today for lunch. 3hours free parking, service great, food delicious and reasonably priced. Service was prompt, with a smile. There’s something about this pub, the people, visitors and their dogs, that make it feel so welcoming, relaxing an intimate. A nice glass of red, sitting in the sun with amazing waterside views, a really lovely day before throwing the roof back and cruising the lovely winding lanes home.
