My sister booked the Pack Saddle by mistake, so glad she did. The food was delicious, freshly cooked and very tasty. There were 4 of us not one complaint. Will definitely be going back. Price wise the menu was standard for these days and area.
Very good Sunday lunch with fresh veg, super roast potatoes and tasty gravy. Beer and wine choice perfect. As somebody else has noted - a little more expensive than some other local pub menus but worth it.
Good menu choice and good service. All four of us chose different meals, and all were good.Food: 4/5
Very nice food if a tad expensive, however you get what you pay for. Service good and the staff pleasant and helpful, loos clean. The children’s play area is just right. Don’t miss the community allotments provided by pub in the paddock. Great sign here
Best steak pie, and fish and chips delicious, will be back. 1st class and a beautiful place, staff very friendly and dog friendly
Lovely location. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The service and food were to a good quality. Would definitely return for food in future.
I used to love this place for a Sunday roast. I think they're under new management because I went here yesterday with my family and we all agreed that its gone completely down hill. The roast potatoes were more like jacket potatoes, the "roast chicken" wasn't even an actual roast dinner. When we asked where our pork scratchings were, they bought out a tiny 3cm pork scratching. The gravy is more like a thick jus. Was very disappointing. In reply to your response: As stated, the potatoes tasted awful. Not the traditional roast I'd expect. I usually take my meat medium rare, it came out rare and chewy. My nieces refused to eat half their plate because they hated the gravy. So there is your answer on taste. Also, It's not been years since I was last there. This would be my 5th visit this year and I've visited many times before. The food is usually good. But this time it was disgraceful and a let down to our important family event.
Fond memories of walking over from Caversham to enjoy a pint of Gales HSB. This was some years ago but I remember enjoying every visit. Sadly, HSB is no more but the pub is still there. Must pay a visit.
We went to the pack saddle on bank holiday Monday about 12:30, we didn't have a reservation but there was plenty of seating so this was not a problem. That's said it was popular and getting busier throughout our visit so it maybe recommended, especially if a poor weather day as alot of the seating is outside. The reason we initially chose The Pack Saddle is because we were bringing a 2 year old child with us and we heard there was a play area which there was, a picture is attached. A very nice wooden play area with an intentionally wonky house, two swings, a game of snakes and ladders built into the table and a slide Unfortunately due to the heat of the day we were unable to use the metal slide. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed playing in the area which was clean and looked after. Also if you look on the patio area to the left as you come out of the rear door of The Pack Saddle you will find an area with Connect 4 and Jenga garden games which will also a hit with our daughter. The Pack Saddle is also dog friendly, there were several dogs there and dog bowls are provided in the patio area also. We all ordered lunch, I had the lamb which was very nice and I would highly recommend, personally it could have done with a tiny bit more sauce but that's just personal choice and doesn't take away from the fact it was a very nice meal. My husband ordered the pork belly which hands down was the nicest meal which is saying something as they were all highly enjoyable. I have added a picture of his, I would of added mine but I tucked in before it occurred to take a picture. My chicken nuggets and chips loving daughter was able to order chicken goujons with fries which was not on the children's menu but they were very happy to accommodate. Again another lovely meal which she thoroughly enjoyed. All the staff on site we very friendly, polite and did all they can to help, in particular when I didn't read the credit card machine properly and accidentally tried to tip my entire PIN number! Stuff for quick to rectify the issue I put me at ease despite my embarrassment in the situation. 2 adult lunches, 2 shandy pints, one children's meal and one small orange juice came to approximately £50 in all which for the quality or food and drink I would happily pay again and I would happily recommend to others.
Lovely roast at a friendly family-run pub. The decor is smart and it is dog-friendly.Food: 5/5
