A great little campsite however the utilities are minimal which was fine for us with it being a quiet weekend but one toilet and one shower will soon become a problem if it gets busynFree firepits and friendly staffnnAlso a note to the owners move the cistern to the outside of the toilet cubicle to give some leg space
Beautifully rural and a peaceful escape for people who thrive in nature.nSpent 5 nights at Otter vale and had the best weather imaginable. If you like the wild side of camping and the basics this is a fantastic place to go a small lake down the bottom to walk around a woods and just pure peace.nThankyou Joe and Emma I will be back to visit again if I get chance.nSean
Lovely place to be, beautiful views really quite. The farmer's are lovely, Toilet and shower is clean. There is fresh running water and a sink to do your dishes.Nice little walk around the farm. There is an option to buy fire wood there for an open fire.we stayed for a week and we will definitely be coming back.
Lovely people.nnVery patient. They've been very accommodating, trusting and Joe who runs the site and is sometimes here, is a decent young man.nnHe's a hard worker, very kind, compassionate individual, which is a good reflection of his parents.nnAnd one cannot leave out the gorgeous pup that is Winnie.nnWhen I first met Winnie, I had a few barks, then a sniff and lick and then gave her some strokes.nnSince then, I've played with her often and watched her hoping through the grass.nnShe's protective of her daddy Joe and is Guardian of the Vale.nnI have C-PTSD, ADHD, on the spectrum, BPD etc and this is a such beautiful location to be somewhere quieter and away from a lot of issues and people.nnI'm currently homeless through no fault of my own, as a result of abuse by Torbay Council and multitudinous services and individuals.nnI have met some lovely people here.nnThere are some beautiful views and nature to see, on site, locally and surrounding areas.nnYou'll see a number of species of birds, such as buzzards hovering in the air, seeking their prey.nnThere's a chance to see deer on occasion and if you don't, the tell tale sign of their presence you can see in the ground with their tracks.nnVarious insects are also on show, such as the beetle that has perplexed Winnie.nnFor those into mycology, you'll see various types of fungus.nnI've attached some photos of Hares Foot Ink Cap and what is either Palomino Cup or Blistered Cup at the camp site. It's been some time since I pursued my interest in mycology, so others more experienced may be able to identify them.nnThere's also the Common Earthball and Common Mycena.nnBe advised, that the common Earthball is considered poisonous.nnI've attached some others from the wood at nearby Hembury Hill Fort Porcelain Mushroom and Artists Conk a beautiful location for dog walkers with lovely views from the top.nnThe area is very photogenic and I've attached a number of other photos, such as rainbows over the owners gaff and some time lapse videos of the amazing inversion layer that you can see in the early morning valley and the sunsets.nnIt's a lovely location for astrophotoraphy.nnDue to my situation and not having my dslr, I cannot share any photos, but it's ideal to get star trails with your camera pointed at Polaris and by 0050 facing East, Orion now dominates the sky, facing off Taurus the Bull and you cannot forget the beautiful Pleiades and an opportunity to capture the milky way.nnAll whilst having a camp fire. Fire pits provided and wood can be purchased from Joe on site.nnSome guitar is also a good choice with the fire and a brew.nnFamilies with children or science nerds like myself, it's a beautiful location for potentially getting involved in some Citizen Science Projects. It's a great way to get them connected too and learn more about their environment, whilst contributing to the world of sciencennFor aviation buffs, there is the opportunity to see infrequent military aircraft, however you may see some light aircraft, as there is a drop zone/airfield locally.nnThe sound of the aircraft isn't intrusive and for me, gives a bigger sense of isolation.nnIt is most infelicitous, but so far I have not seen any alien craft. nnFree range eggs from Farleigh farm, near the camp site are £1.50 for six. Drop your dough into the yellow box and leave a message with the Post It's and pens.nnTrays of eggs are also available.nnHoniton has a number of shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes, a leisure centre, a museum and the like, with the Otter Inn and it's garden next to the River Otter recommended.nnAs its still an operational farm, exercise care when vehicles and machinery are in infrequent operation.nnA shower, toilet, sink and running water are all provided.nnWild swimming located at Fluxton Weir, or a choice of beaches along the coast.nnThere's also tales of paranormal origin, such as The Witches Stone, located at the Hare and Hounds or the ghosts of murdered criminals seen wandering the common.nnYou will have a beautiful stay here.nnThank you for everything..nnTake care.
Best campsite I've visited in 5 years! Find a spot in the woods and really get away from it all!! 4g signal is good so your not to far out lol. Easy access to A30, A303, Honiton. We bought some if there fresh eggs and really enjoyed the whole time!!
