Extremely friendly and welcoming staff. Excellent position in the centre of town, yet rooms very quiet. Generous rooms. Dogs welcomed. We particularly enjoyed the open mic night in the bar on a Thursday. Great sounds and lovely people.Rooms: 5/5
Limited menu but because of that the food was outstanding. Although a late Sunday dinner beef or chicken dinners beautiful, a vegan option was available. Oh and if you're a beer fan this is your place lots of crafts at the bar! Excellent little pub, we loved it.
We have just had our Chinese second takeaway from the Old Well, there food has always been delicious but the Chinese menu is the best we've ever had! I can't recommend them enough. We didn't have to wait long despite the pub been extremely busy and the food was piping hot. Try it you will not be disappointed! I would love to add a photo but the the food was gone too quickly.
We picked this accommodation as it advertised Sunday dinner, bed and breakfast. We checked in at 4.30pm and said we would like the evening meal. We were told that food was being served until 8pm. When we tried to order at 7.20pm we were informed that they had run out of food totally untrue as there was plenty of food in stock for breakfast. When we said that we were diabetic and not eating was not an option, to get rid of us, they sent us on a long walk to another pub, which didn't even serve food on Sunday evenings! We managed to get some snack food on route and went back to the Old Well Inn at 9.30pm, the door was locked but the bar staff were in. We asked for a drink, but were refused. At this point, sober and hungry we just went to bed. Unfortunately we hadn't eaten enough and we're both very ill all through the night. Breakfast looked lovely, but we were too tired and sick by then to eat it. It may only be the Sunday staff who were at fault. We were in the hotel, so how difficult would it have been to ask us for our food order? Failing that, make us a sausage sandwich? Not lie to us? Serve us the 2 halves of beer we requested? I believe that their behaviour towards residents totally unacceptable and I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay there ever!
The drinks were served by a pleasant young man and not too dear. We had the Sunday roast dinner. I chose the Beef version which I noticed the beef was laid over the potatoes and cut very thinly. It tasted fine but I felt that there wasn't enough Beef on the plate.
Lovely inn with good beer and great Indian Street food as well as Chinese and traditional fayre. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Having just moved to the area we're going to make it our local.
Highly recommended my friends and I have stayed here a few times now and have always found a warm welcome from Roy, Rima and the whole team. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are quirky but always warm and comfortable and the cooked breakfast is great with lots of options. We will be back!
Nice place to stay. Very central to everything in the town. We asked for another room as our room wasn't adequate. The indian food was not the best for me, no flavour, although it was the last meal served up around 8.45. Nice breakfast and the staff and hosts were very pleasant. Would probably have given 4 stars if the food wasnt as bland Anyway, an enjoyable weekend, thank you for your hospitality. Mr. D. Oakes
Brilliant stay for NYE . great selection of drinks , very friendly and accomodating owners/ bar staff .Fantastic breakfast. My only regret is that I didnt get chance to sample the superb smelling curry , BUT I'll be back for that another day. Thank you !
Loved our stay here. Perfect location great team, so friendly and helpful. Our room No 3 is huge, the twin beds accommodating, the carpet thick and welcoming. If the view from the window is a tad limited it's interesting, looking into an antique restoration workshop as it does. The room itself is interestingly furnished, antique French, I'd say. And while it looks great it's problematic. The massive wardrobe occupies space that would be better employed in provision of an uncramped ensuite. Where the room embraces with it's generous proportions this ensuite is beyond mean with it's constraining, tight, claustrophobic size. I'm really sorry to have this negativity because everything else about the Old Well is positive and it feels mean not to just overlook this shortcoming. But come the middle of the night when you have to navigate that room it becomes a significant toe bashing obstacle course. And all the worse for the fact that with minimal adaptation a larger space could be given over to the task without impinging on the generosity of the bedrooms proportions. All that aside. The breakfasts were hearty and tasty. The coffee endless and flavoursome. And the evening meal, a curry, we enjoyed very much. In fact it was positively spectacular, with soft buttery fresh roti. And each of our dishes being deeply flavoursome yet delicate. None of that shared base flavour thing here. All served up with excellent ales and an open mile night. With a decent ensuite 5 stars anyday.
