Lovely little pub. We were sceptical when we saw it wasn’t open very much but we went in and it was a nice friendly place with excellent real ale for very reasonable prices.
Cosy place with open fire. Friendly staff with a good range of drinks
The Red Lion. Well apart from it being literally next door to where we stay. The Landlord is so nice. My parents live up that way. He's so accommodating, he clears all the snow from front to back for the residents. Brilliant community spirit
This is a proper country pub, of the sort that are few and far between nowadays. Great local ales and ciders, nothing to eat other than pork scratchings or other bar snacks, a warm welcome and friendly landlord, dogs all over the place and a roaring fire! Absolutely superb - would definitely recommend!
We spend a lovely afternoon here as part of a stag weekend. It's a really charming pub, with good real ales, cosy nooks to sit in, darts and games, and super friend staff. Richard looked after our party and left a lasting impression. He was such a nice guy and great barman!
Fab old pub with lovely locals. Everyone is happy to chat. No food, but dogs are welcome on a lead Land lord is nice and drinks are cheep.
Excellent venue friendly landlord fabulous real ale from the Yorkshire Dale's Brewery well served by Richard the landlord highly recommended for the real ale enthusiast
I agree with my nephew George Webb but will go one further and say best pub and landlord in the UK. Always a must visit when visiting family from New Zealand. Epitomises all what is good about an English pub. Something we cant reciprocate back home. Michael Port Chalmers Nrw Zealand
Great Christmas Eve drink with my daughter tempted to a half of the Durham Brewery Russian Stout 'Temptation' from the cask at 10% abv that was enough!!! The Red Lion is a cosy local pub that welcomes visitors.
Proper pub, fantastic real ale, No TV like the good old days x
