After visiting Gretna Gateway we popped into the Old Toll Bar Cafe for something to eat. We were too late for the Scottish breakfast which was served between 10am and 11:30am. We ordered a round of sandwiches and chips each, these are served between 11:30am and 2pm. As you can see from my picture the food was fresh with a good amount of sandwich filling, I enjoyed them very much along with the shortbread that came with our hot drinks. The service was good. I have only given the cafe four stars because I found the menu choice a bit limited, it seemed to have been scaled down from what I'd seen online. I agree with some of the other reviewers that this would be a much better option to stop for refreshments than a service station but you really need to plan your visit to arrive between 10am and 2pm if you want something substantial.
A nice little place with a calm atmosphere. Decent parking around the back. Only small inside but still has several plus tables. A decent choice of food, limited alcoholic drinks and more in the way of non-alcoholic drinks. If you like cake- have a good choice of those as well. Actually cheaper than I thought.
So worth a visit, lovely place, plenty of parking. The two young girls, one being the chef and the other looking after people, are very friendly. Food is very good, we usually stop off here for a cooked breakfast on route to our holiday destination. They also have homemade cakes, which look delicious. It does get very busy so you may have to wait some time for your meal. Children are welcome. Only comment I could make is they could do with more staff.
A splendid old skool cafe. I very much enjoyed the hearty vegetable broth and decadent cheese savoury sandwiches. Excellent chips too but they were wasted on our 21 month old! Highly recommended.Food: 5/5
Stopped here in Gretna for breakfast after a 4 hour and 30 minute journey south. We had a latte, a drinking chocolate, all day breakfast and a sweet chilli chicken wrap. The only fault would have been the latte, as it was a bit weak for my liking. The service was fantastic from start to finish and would recommend stopping in by if in the vicinity. Parking: We arrived on a wet morning and many parts of the carpark there were puddles of water and it was a bit muddy.
Called in on our route to Glasgow, and enjoyed one of the best breakfast we've had. Loved the history of the place. Many thanks.
Fantastic experience, lovely staff that showed us around and told us all about history of building. Definitely a place to visit and the haggis was delicious Kid-friendliness: Good choices, little one was extremely happy she could get Mac and cheese for brunch which a fully loaded hot chocolate Parking: Free big car park at the back of the building
Our new favourite cafe! Just over the border into Scotland with great coffee and lovely food to choose from. Less than 60 seconds from M6 exit 45 north bound only.
To me me it seemed a bit gloomy and unwelcoming. Crumbs and food on the floor. Didn't allow dogs insude but we were desperate for a coffee. The coffee was nice, just not a very welcoming atmosphere.
An amazing find just off the motorway, and so much better than service station options. Lovely breakfasts set us up for the remainder of our journey. Thank you.Food: 5/5
