We popped into Fowey and fancied a snack, we had passed The Old Quay Hotel many times but never visited it. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff and taken to our table. Our order of a crab sandwich was served promptly with a nice glass of wine. Both food & drink was tasty plus the surroundings were excellent with views of the estuary. Hopefully our on next visit we will take the opportunity to to stay.
The location of this hotel is excellent, right in the middle of Fowey and so you just have to step outside the main entrance and everything is there. The staff were amazing too and were welcoming and friendly. The room however was disappointing for a 4 star hotel and over £200 per night. We were in room number 1 and found the blinds to have not been cleaned for a significant period of time, the toilet brush was covered in the previous occupant's toilet paper, the plastic trim to the shower was broken and falling to pieces, the pillow cases had stains and there was no milk throughout our stay for the tea/coffee. The bed was uncomfortable and the bedding was poor quality. We loved Fowey but would not stay here again due to the issues with the room.
Room with a great view - shower water was cold if you have a shower after 9am. Wish they would check & replace hand & body cream.nnBreakfast waiting to be served - table sticky & no condiments!nnPretty poor service for an expensive hotel!
Stumbled across this little gem of a place whilst walking around the quaint fisherman’s village in Fowey. Unfortunately it was difficult to park as it was an unusually warm English Summer day & height of season school holidays . We’d missed the lunch menu as it was around 3pm. However it wasn’t heaving or difficult to be seated as it was of hours . They were however offering a lite bites menu between lunch & dinner . Small selection including a cream tea that my Mum had . £10 a little pricey but she thoroughly enjoyed it came with plenty of Cornish clotted cream but sadly 1 tiny pot of strawberry jam. We asked for a 2nd & it was brought to the table with a smile & no surcharge. My Dad & I opted for the fresh local caught white crabmeat sandwich on a wonderful homemade bread & served with excellent crispy seasoned French fries & small side salad with house made vinaigrette. £15 but it was stuffed with crab meat & we were stuffed it was amazing: We both had a pint of nice chilled Italian Poretti . Unfortunately they won’t serve you on the lovely terrace overlooking the harbor as the bloody seagulls swoop down & steal customers food. Once we’d enjoyed our late lunch we moved outside to enjoy the views & sunshine & enjoyed a lovely Pinot Grigio blush . Service was very attentive & friendly. There was a lovely Portuguese waiter who seemed a little overwhelmed on arrival but made up for it with smiles & service. I noticed it was dog friendly inside & out which I loved & got chatting with some of the dog owners / customers. So all in all a lovely relaxed setting good food service & ambiance. Congratulations to you all you nailed it keep up the good work . Thanks for your wonderful hospitality.
We did not stay but went for Sunday lunch. On arrival we used the toilets only to find there was nothing to dry our hands on. The waitress said they were waiting for a delivery of paper and towels. No temporary measure, like a box of tissues or hand towel, was provided. We dried hands by waving them around.nThe waitress’s attitude was arrogant and condescending throughout our time there. At the end of each of the two courses, we were asked “Are you done?” Not the terminology one would expect from an establishment that calls itself a ‘Boutique Hotel and Restaurant’.nThere were no condiments on the table and none were provided when the meal was served. We had to ask for salt and pepper for example.nThe table of four next to us had roast beef. Again nothing was provided for them in the way of condiments. They asked for horse radish sauce to go with their beef and were told by the waitress that the hotel had none.nWe too had the roast beef and I have to say that other than the beef the rest of the meal was ordinary and the dessert, sticky toffee pudding, was dry with little toffee sauce.nAltogether, a disappointing meal and experience for £100 plus. I have had better meals for half the price.
