Lovely little museum which I visited with a friend. We are both aspiring medical students which is why we may have enjoyed it much more than some. Either way, the pathology is fascinating and the ways that Medicine and healthcare has developed through the centuries is incredible. The lady at the Apothecary counter was lovely and was able to answer our questions. We even met some leeches! Would definitely come again.
Interesting little museum located at the top of a 52 step spiral staircase. Home to what use to be a herb garret and one of the oldest surviving operating theatres in the country. Not the largest of museums, but for the relatively low price for entry especially with the 2-4-1 tickets, it is well worth it.
Found this on google map near my to-go places and got a pleasant surprise. First you would need to climb up a flight of 52-step narrow claustrophobic spiral staircase to get to the reception office. Note the green/red light to see if you can/cannot go up/down, red light indicates someone is already using the staircase. The museum was actually a garret that once was an apothecary and contained the oldest operating theatre. Lucky to bump into a free tour at 14:25 odd time which lasted around 15min, well worth it.
Awesome little find and cheap to get in. Can't believe the history here. It's amazing to think that it's from 1820. Would recommend checking this place out. There's spiral stairs upwards which are quite steep so anyone with accessibility needs may need to ask about alternative access.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Was a pretty good museum in a small space near London Bridge. There are some minor interactive displays and a lady dressed as an apothecary you can talk to. Some interesting old medical instruments and the operating room itself. Worth a look if you are bored but I wouldn't go too far out of your way for a visit.
Very interesting museum and lots of cool artefacts and information available. Lost a star only because of the club downstairs absolutely blaring music out at 1pm on a Saturday with lots of shouting- makes it harder to read & concentrate not to sound like a pensioner lol. Such a shame about that. However, very glad I visited, great place for a surgery & medical history enthusiast
Very fun museum for anyone in the medical profession. I enjoyed getting to see the old operating theatre as well as history on various surgical tools, anesthesia, and general medicine during previous time periods. The staff that worked there was very friendly. Note- you have to walk up a very steep/long winding staircase to get to the museum.
This place is straight out of Robert Louis Stevenson. You can picture Dr Jekyll walking through the old operating theatre to get to his chemistry laboratory and turn himself into Mr Hyde. Very evocative and interesting. The staff were engaging and the building is curious and fun. Definitely worth a visit.
This was SUCH a unique and cool experience with our family. It was really impressive what items they had on displayed but also how much work was put into engaging with younger kids as well. The rubber ducky hunt for disease; we got SUCH a kick out of as parents The operating theater is really a piece of history that takes your breath away to see...and imagine just what was attempted there with medicine. Huge kudos to imaginative staff and a worth it stop. With love, from Canada
What can I say that hasn't already been said. A true hidden gem, the entrance is not very obvious but keep those eyes peeled and you will find it. Be aware that it is a narrow spiral staircase up to the top with nowhere to stop, but take your time and you will be rewarded. Up in the loft of the old apothecary store is a great little museum showing how far medicine has come along. Plenty of interesting items to see and read about, then there is the crown jewel of the museum. The amazingly well preserved operating theatre with it's recently renovated glass ceiling. There is a small shop near the counter with some fun items for kids and big kids. The staff are all welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended that you visit here if you are looking for something different.
