We came here this evening, (traveling 15 miles) after having a great meal at a Crown Carvery a few years ago. I have to say the food was great, meat was tender and all piping hot. The carvery chef was really happy and chatty, and is a credit to the business. That’s where it ends however...
You find a table and order at the bar... not a problem, but was abruptly informed “you can’t open a table with a card because the manager banned it from people walking out” - if you take their card details to open a table, you can still take a payment if they do a runner.
Both the girl serving the bar and the female manager on shift just had sheer arrogance - informing me (at 8.40) we’d “have to order food quick”. Ordered our food straight away and went to carvery. 
After deciding we fancied desserts, we went to order at the bar and told by the manager we couldn’t because “they’ve closed the kitchen entirely” (this was 9.10 - website states kitchen service until 9.30). When ordering our carvery we mentioned that we were looking at desserts because we had a discount voucher for the entire meal, and were not advised of this at the time, otherwise we would have ordered them then.
No one checked to see how our food was. 
Both the male and female toilets were disgusting, and the disability distress alarm cord was tied up in the male toilets. We went home and had dessert elsewhere where the service was pleasant.
As far as Crown Carveries go, the food is still good value, but the service is the key, and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone

If you arrive just when lunch starts the food is delicious and hot. Great place especially if you want to eat healthily.

Very good A1 SERVICE & excellent value for money beautiful lovely meal 🍴 with various meal 🍴 options available plus a excellent A1 carvery meal, various meats & vet available.  Excellent members off staff very helpful & pleasent friendly & welcoming.
The establishment was clean & tidy good facilities also clean & tidy. 
Disabled ♿ toilet available with easy access & also available at THE OLD MOTHER RED CAP EATING & OR DRINKING 🍻 🍷 establishment there is a large car park which is on the same level as the restaurant, bar which is ideal  for any disabled or elderly visitors whom may struggle with steps ect. 
There are also disabled ♿ car parking 🅿 spaces available, very close to the restaurant facing the main road, this is also very important to me, as I  am unsteady on my feet & also have a sever disabling back injury. 
Children are more than welcome, no play area.
So I award the establishment A1 on services, meal, staff ect.
Plus 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 stars for the disabled toilet facility & disabled ♿ car 🚗 parking spaces available, plus the easy access as the whole car 🚗 park & Restaurant 🍴 is all on the same level.

I WOULD DEFINITELY HIGHLY RECOMMEND, 
THE OLD MOTHER RED CAP
TO ALL MY FRIENDS & FAMILY, SOME OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS TAVEL OVER EVERY 3 MONTHS TO VISIT & ALWAYS INSIST ON GOING. ITS GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY & THE MEALS ARE  EXCELLENT, SO TO ARE THE STAFF VERY PLEASANT & HELPFUL, WELCOMING, ALSO FAMILY 👪 FRIENDLY SO CHILDREN ARE WELCOME TO.
