Nice old hotel, it looks a bit tired but that adds to it's charm. The only negative is the breakfast, why not put out a selection of eggs out on the counter instead of asking if you would like some when you've sat down with your breakfast! I'll know for next time, because we will definitely visit again
We went last night all the family 11 of us for a meal to celebrate our golden wedding. The meals we had were mostly different to each other but each one was cooked to perfection and delicious. Full marks to the chef. Also the manager was about all the time and couldn’t do enough to make sure everything was perfect for usnAll the serving staff at the bar and in the restaurant were really nice so it made our evening perfect in every way. We will definitely be going again. Thanks again to Mr Massey and all the staff.nKind regards Ray and Jane Moss and Family.
Booked 4 poster room for our 10 year wedding anniversary and emailed the hotel ahead of time. They made sure we had the best room. It was very clean and spacious. The staff were very friendly and congratulated us.nBreakfast included was nice. Full English breakfast, toast and cereals.nnParking ticket available from the hotel at £5 for 24 hours.
Apparently this is one of the oldest hotels in England with a very long history and therefore certainly has character. It's a beautiful old building right in the middle of Buxton which means you can do everything on foot which is great. It is clean, the staff are friendly and welcoming and it is dog friendly. Our room was small, which was fine for two nights but would have been a bit of a challenge for a longer stay. The rooms are basic. Comfortable but there aren't many amenities in the room or the hotel. No safe, no hairdryer, no minibar etc. The room was cleaned during our stay but the dirty towels were not exchanged and coffee was not replaced. The hotel has a breakfast room and a bar and that's it. Nothing else. Having said that, it's right opposite the opera house, close to the swimming baths and there are so many fantastic pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés in Buxton as well as a host of fabulous shops and a market that you don't really need anything in the hotel. We didn't spend any time there except for sleeping and breakfast. All in all, for a short stay, it's absolutely fine and good value for money. If you wanted to stay for longer, I would look elsewhere with a bit more comfort.
An Absolutely atrocious stay, with such an iconic previously stunning hotel going into wreck and ruin. Where shall I start. Total lack of customer service, bad attitudes by staff, and re-heated food! Room filthy with biscuits on the floor. Anti-social behaviour and noise in the room next door. Staff serving them drink when they're already drunk! Think they may be using this hotel as temporary accommodation for the homeless, alongside paying guests! Had to move rooms with another one with crisps on the floor! Absolutely freezing with no towels. Play safe and book a Travel Inn!!!
