​Popped in because I needed the facilities. Initially, a staff member at the top of the stairs told me the upstairs was closed, but I was eventually able to use the toilets there.n​The building itself is beautiful with wonderful high ceilings, so I decided to stay for food. However, despite there being plenty of free tables, almost all of them were dirty and cluttered with used glasses.n​I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Burger via the app. It was supposed to come with blue cheese and Naga chilli sauce, but I received a plain piece of chicken in a roll with a few onions—no sauces at all. I didn’t ask for a replacement as I was eating with a colleague and didn't want them to have to wait for me. I ended up hunting for a sauce bottle that wasn't empty just to give it some flavor. Even at half price, it would have been a rip-off. We left for dessert elsewhere and I regretted not choosing one of the other nearby locations.

Grand old building, well renovated as a pub. Tables upstairs and down. There's an accessible toilet, so I guess there must be an accessible entrance somewhere, but the front approach is up steps. Food was good, ordering by app worked fine. A bit naff that they were out of haggis on Burns Night! Also at time of writing the JDW menu has no vegan desserts, alas.nnThere is diagonal parking across the street and the railway station and its car park are just a hundred yards up the road.

This is an excellent Wetherspoons. The building architecture is wonderful, there is always a good atmosphere and the prices charged for food and drink is very attractive. I had a burger when I went, I wasn’t too impressed with it, I thought for the £10 it cost with a soft drink, it could have been slightly better value for money. The burger buns were cold and some of the chips were undercooked. However, everything else was great. Good service, good atmosphere, and a good selection of food and drinks on offer.

The Old Chapel, Darwen – Holy Chips, It’s Good!nnThe Old Chapel is one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. The food’s simple but tasty, the prices are decent, and there’s always some kind of offer on that makes you feel like you’ve beaten the system. You don’t need to remortgage your house for a burger here, and you’ll still leave happily stuffed.nnIt’s proper family-friendly too, the sort of place where kids can actually be kids and no one looks at you like you’ve just unleashed chaos. The staff are cheerful, the service is quick, and there’s always a good buzz around the place.nnYou won’t get fancy fine dining, but that’s the charm. It’s honest food, good portions, fair prices, and a cracking atmosphere. Whether it’s a family tea, a lazy Sunday lunch, or a quick bite after work, The Old Chapel hits the spot every time.
