Stayed here for two nights as had a wedding to go to nearby. Lovely pub with a really nice atmosphere, the room we had was large, clean, well kept and the bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. And Mark was an amazing host, really friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to eat dinner there, but if we ever find ourselves down that way again, we'll definitely try it out. Oh, and Captain the parrot deserves a mention. Very polite little bird!
Amazing thatched inn dating from the 1300s, with huge character and very hospitable hosts. Stayed a couple of nights for a nearby wedding and really appreciated the comfortable and spotlessly clean bedroom. Great breakfasts, good beer and a 40 year old resident parrot all added to a memorable weekend, and this is a place we will happily return to next time we are in the area
Just come back from Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. It was just as I wanted it to be - a country pub with an affable landlord together with good, reasonably priced food. The salt and pepper squid was delicious as a starter, then the roasts pork or beef were nicely cooked, not overdone as is often the case. The yorkies were large and fluffy, plenty of parsnips, crisp roast potatoes and a nice bit of crackling on the side. I particularly liked that the roasts were available in 3 sizes; the small was just right for me as I don't like a heavy lunch. My son tells me that the sticky toffee pudding was superb, and my coffee was a good brew. A nice touch was a candle for my brother's birthday with his dessert. All in all a very pleasant experience, one that we will repeat next time we want to go to Devon on a family visit.
Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay. Stopped in to have lunch. Peaceful location. Excellent service and great food. The onion rings are a meal in themselves!! Not just dog friendly but dog welcoming !!Service: 5/5
We have just had the pleasure of a three night stay at the New Inn. We were made to feel very welcome. The room and bathroom were very spacious and immaculately clean. Breakfasts were superb. Nothing was to much trouble. Indeed our dog wants to move in!. A sensible, generously portioned evening menu, was enjoyed, during our stay. The choice of well kept, local ales and larger, are well worth sampling. The New Inn is located, within a sensible drive, to a number of interesting places, to visit. Exeter Cathedral, Drogo Castle and Dartmoor, of particular note. A big thank you to all the team and we wouldn't hesitate in visiting again. Andy.
Great village pub Made to feel comfortable as soon as you walked in Our drinks and meals especially were lovely we were very impressed with everything on our Sunday lunchtime visit
Lovely old inn with very friendly staff and a residential parrot. Food was beautiful. Excellent choice S African dishes as well as English
A wonderful old country pub, good food, welcoming and helpful staff and a superb Sunday roast.Service: 5/5
Stayed for just one night - sadly - en route to Cornwall. Our room was very large with an enormous bed and fabulous linen. The decor was lovely; calm and contemporary but classic and the bathroom newly refurbished. The pub had a very friendly atmosphere and the food was good, honest traditional fare. I had an excellent burger with seriously good hand-cut chips and my partner had the best steak and ale pie either of us have enjoyed. Mark and Teresa were extremely good hosts and we had a very good chat with them. I would definitely go back and it would be great place to go with a few friends too. All in all it was fantastic value for the cost. Highly recommend it.
Good menu, many tasty dishes, good selection of real ales and charming attentive staff, sadly let down by cold plates, food that could have benefited from a few extra seconds in the microwave, relatively small portions and mediocre food presentation. Would still go again .
