The Market Porter

About

The Market Porter is most definitely a real ale pub, with up to nine traditional ales constantly changing, its a "beer festival" every day of the week.

Story

The Market Porter is a public house and restaurant overlooking historic Borough Market. Offering twelve traditional and award-winning ales on tap and freshly prepared British food seven days a week.

Above the buzzing ground floor bar is our gorgeous restaurant. With its own bar, elegant Victorian decor and views of Borough Market, our restaurant is the perfect space for a traditional English lunch, a cosy evening meal and private events, whether with friends, family, or colleagues.

We are extremely proud of our food at The Market Porter. Open seven days a week, our kitchen serves delicious, classic British and Modern European fare, using local and fresh ingredients from nearby markets. Our food is complemented by a great range of award winning traditional ales, craft beers, local gins, and fine wines. We rotate our guest ales frequently - it’s like an ale festival every day of the week. We won’t be surprised if you decide to stay for ‘just one more’.

A cozy English pub near Borough Market. The upstairs area has a nice, atmospheric vibe – great for a relaxed meal. I went for the classic fish & chips, which met my expectations, or maybe even a bit better; solid for pub food. There was a bit of a mix-up with the beer selection, as the upstairs bar doesn’t carry all the options available downstairs, and they can’t bring them up. Overall, though, a positive experience!
We came in for a quick fish and chips and beer and were really pleased with relaxed service and atmosphere. Nice premises, clean lavatories, reasonable prices.Food: 5/5
Classic london pub in plein borough market place. Eated fish and chips very good and hamburger with tomatos sauce in english style not so good for italian people. Location tipical. Wide and good beer choise.Food: 4/5
This is a very pretty pub with a very nice and chilled vibe. Wonderful Saturday afternoon with live music. Good variety of beers. Highly recommended.Food: 5/5
It's our 'go to' place whenever meeting friends and family. This time we were around 6 people and we asked for separate bills. Service was quick and efficient. Food was delicious, two of us had the seabass, one had the caesar salad with chicken, two had the steak and ale pie and another had the fish and chips. We sat upstairs in the dining area overlooking Borough Market. All in all a very pleasant experience. It's very popular and booking is essential if you want to eat a meal along with your drinks.
Came for a couple of cask ales and they were spot on. Little outdoor area with cask tabletops to watch the crowds, inside not busy at all. Food options traditional pub fare.Service: 5/5
Great spot that opens early for the market traders opposite borough market, cheap Guinness for London, old school pub, lovely place to visit, highly recommend.Service: 5/5
Lovely pub next to The Borough Marketplace. Had a window seat overlooking the market for fantastic people watching. The roast chicken and vegetables were delicious!Food: 5/5
Been coming here for years but it had been a while. I was worried that meeting on a Saturday afternoon was going to be a nightmare the whole area is a lot more busy these days but I found a table inside and the six of us had somewhere comfortable to catch up. The bar staff are efficient with little hanging around and no queue jumping. Great choice of beers, both alcoholic and non.
The Market Porter gave us the perfect opportunity to experience a traditional British pub, right in the heart of Borough Market. We tried a couple of their beers, which were just what we needed to recharge and continue our sightseeing around the city's iconic nearby landmarks. A great spot to soak in the local atmosphere and enjoy a pint or two!
