Really loved this friendly, charming pretty pub - restaurant ! The welcome was so warm and friendly, we chose to sit in the pretty garden within view of the church. and we noticed that the lazy toad is dog friendly inside and out as long as on a lead! We chose leek and chicken pie delicious, I had the bean burger with chunky homemade chips to die for and my husband Gammon cooked to perfection ! A very good menu lots of choice, excellent puddings although we were too full up ! Really lovely feel to the place will definitely return soon !
We enjoyed a fantastic family meal at The Lazy Toad this weekend. Delicious Sunday roasts and excellent choices for the little ones, followed by scrumptious puds. Service was superb, and we especially liked our table in the snug. Fab food in warm and cosy, family friendly surroundings. A real find.
This is a delightful country pub that used to have a brilliant menu. Due to lack of customers they have pared it right back and now do limited light snacks. It's still delightful, the snacks are good quality and the staff still friendly but it's such a shame that it's been forced to change. I hope they will increase their bar menu - especially for evening food.
Last minute decision to book for dinner proved a huge success. We haven't been here since this place has been refurbished and renamed. Had field mushrooms followed by the fillet steak and saffron poached pear. My husband has the ham hock terrine, hake with mussel casserole followed by banoffee pie. Definitely great choices! The food was hot, fresh, fresh, so tasty and my steak was absolutely melt in the mouth. I swear I could have cut it with a spoon! Beautifully seasoned, the dauphinois and celeriac that accompanied the steak were soft and delicious. My husband let me try his hake which was also delightful. The atmosphere was comfortable and friendly. The staff were attentive but not intrusive. All together a great experience and we will definitely be back!
Very disappointed poor quality and over priced, service slow got the order wrong. Ordered fish and chips, chips over cooked in burnt oil, cold and soggy, fish would have been lovely if it had been hot, garden peas looked as if they had been in the microwave for too long. Lemon posset not set and runny. Have had much better fish and chips at Morrisons, will not be going back and wouldn't recommend to friends, such a shame as I like to support local businesses.
We've wanted to go for Sunday lunch at the Lazy Toad for a long time and only just got around to booking. Lovely building, nice village and you can tell the food is good. However, our table was booked for 2pm, late on in the lunch service. When our roast dinners came out, they were accompanied by beetroots and sweetcorn ?, rather than the normal brocolli, cauliflour cheese, carrots etc., which we found odd. It was only afterwards when we asked about why this is, we found out that they didn't have a delivery on time, so they served us sweetcorn and beetroots instead. We wouldn't have minded, had they told us up front that they had run out of ingredients and that they'd maybe reduce the price, but this was after I'd paid. They should have said something, as we were all thinking "this is a bit odd". I should have piped up at the time of hearing the explanation, but my brain was working slowly after a lovely brownie and ice cream which was very nice, I should add. When you pay £16 for a roast, I think a customer deserves a bit more transparency. Wouldn't stop me going back, as you can tell it's a nice place with good food, but it also doesn't leave me itching to go back.
Roasts were technically excellent but boring. For example the chicken roast came with a slim slice of stuffing. Friendly efficient professional service but they need to consider how tasty a chicken roast, priced at £15.95 could be.
Just had a fabulous meal at this lovely gastropub. Is not cheap, but the food & service were first class! if I didn’t live the other end of the country I would visit again ASAP! Totally recommended
Warm welcome, well kept ale, excellent food, superb service and great atmosphere. Also a great base for cycling. Can't think of many better venues.
Welcoming, good service, good food, clean and tidy. One real ale though - two more would be better. A ploughman's and a Melton Mowbray pork pie etc. - lovely! 4.5 would be better. Very nice.
