Story

This beautiful 15th century country pub stands opposite the splendid Grade I Listed Newstead Abbey and its glorious grounds in the very heart of ancient Sherwood Forest. Serving travellers on the King’s Highway from Nottingham to Mansfield since medieval times, The Hutt was built in 1400 on the site where King John’s ‘Royal Hutt’ had stood, housing the foresters who protected the King’s deer. By the 17th century it was a coaching inn and a welcome refuge for merchants to gather before braving the notorious Thieves Wood.

From its imposing stone archway to its low, exposed beams and private nooks and crannies, this atmospheric and historic inn offers a truly memorable experience for guests. After enjoying the history, grandeur and romance of Newstead Abbey, former home of romantic poet Lord Byron, visitors can savour the atmosphere and relax with a delicious Sunday lunch or a seasonal special from the extensive pub menu served at The Hutt.

The crispy calamari & Haloumi fries were a fab treat & wonderfully prepared bar snacks. Hospitality is second to none. Cool cider & soft drink was just right. 5* & highly recommended.Food: 5/5
This is a very nice location that I stumbled on. I was in the area and looking for a nice place for having a meal. I was attracted by the photos on Google maps... and I was not disappointed. Because the restaurant area was fully booked in advance the hostess, Lisa that was very helpful and nice, suggested to have a sit in the bar area and it was a very good suggestion. Although, she said that the only downside of the bar was the fact that there are no waiters and I will have to order at the bar, I did not feel like a very big difference because I had access at the same menu available as in the restaurant area, so after ordering at the bar and sat at the table. The starters came in good time and they were very good. We had Crispy Salt & Pepper Squid and Korean BBQ Chicken Strips, they were delicious. And after we finished the starters, although it was a busy evening, short time after the starters finish the staff brought the mains, we had Sea Bass & Seared Scallops and 28-Day-aged Prime Sirloin 8oz with Garlic & Mushroom Cream Sauce V, again we were not disappointed they were delicious, the stake was perfectly cooked to the medium rare, as I requested, and the Sea Bass & Seared Scallops was delicious as far as I understood. I wood recommend this establishment to anyone that is in the area looking for a nice place to have a good meal, nice event or a meeting because far as I could see is a perfect location for any kind of event. Even if you don't have a reservation the hostess will offer the best sit available in the bar area and the atmosphere is perfect for a nice meal or even a meeting between a small party at the music is at the best volume to be heard and not interrupt any conversation that might happen. Also seams dog friendly as I saw a sign that said there were dogs ice-cream available on demand. All in all is a very good location, nice and friendly staff and good food. Parking: There is a private parking lot belonging to the establishment and looked big enough Wheelchair accessibility: There was a levelled plan area that seemed accessible for wheelchairs
Called in on Sunday on the off chance they was a table available and amazing their was The waitress Georgia 10/10 fitted us in and looked after us like king and queen Took our orders food arrived and first thing it’s on a hot plate wow ! as all hot food should be !!! And our food was amazing really tasty well presented and high quality Empty plates say the rest Highly recommend We are definitely going again very soon Thank you so much Georgia for making out first visit so good 10/10

Average/Good experience - Service started well even though a prearranged certain table to be reserved was not done for a child that struggles with mental health issues the location was better the waitress started well but drink orders were forgotten about and empty glasses were not taken away. - The main course food was nice, good quality better than your average pub meal but the dessert was clearly a badly microwaved sticky toffee sponge so disappointing without much sauce. Overall the meal was good value for money £140 for 6 people but left a little disappointed.

We called in at 5pm on a Wednesday. We had not booked, we waited patiently at the entrance, i then went to the bar to ask about a table. Quite expectant as the restaurant was empty. We were then told no room? Bar only. We were looking at the screen which showed tables available until seven? We went elsewhere.Food: 1/5
First time visiting this was because there was a get together in the car park for 10th Anniversary of The Paintman This pub does not accept cash, card payment only This is to save the staff time woth regards to cashing up etc to spend more time serving. We ordered 2 meals for lunch Salmon, crushed potatoes, poached egg and Fried Halloumi Ciabatta with Fries and small side salad Both very nice and tasty, served with mayo which of course got to mix in mustard Ladies toilets was a bit slippery mentioned to staff who went to deal Vegetarian options: There was a selection on the menu Kid-friendliness: The only child I saw sat outside as it was a nice sunny day
