We have come here a few times before and enjoyed good food but coming back this time, started to notice that the menu is pretty limited in choice. You always find out most about a place when something goes wrong though. My wife had ordered pork belly which came with a sauce. She began her meal and immediately had to stop, finding something (perhaps a piece of thread, though it wasn't clear what it was) in the sauce, which totally put her off. The staff at least took it away and asked if she wanted to choose something else but due to the limited menu she ended up eating a burger which is not what she really wanted and of course ate after we had finished. No compensation was offered by the manager as an apology and when I came to pay no adjustment had been made to the bill. All the manager said to me as a poor excuse was "we didn't see anything in the sauce". The manager did finally subtract my wife's meal off the bill when I complained but there was no hint of an apology. Will we be regular customers in the future now - I don't think so

Lovely old country pub. Great food with lots if different nooks to sit in. Very enjoyable meal.

A great place to stay. Excellent food with a good selection on the menu and well presented. Owners and staff were really friendly and welcoming. Our bedroom was en suite with a spa bath (I don't think all the bedrooms have spa type baths so you need to check) and beautifully decorated. Don't forget this an old inn so rooms may be a bit quirky but that adds to the experience of not being in a modern clinical hotel! Our bedroom was above the bar/restaurant so there was a bit of noise filtering up but that soon died away as closing time approached. Certainly didn't bother us and, to be honest, we would have worried more if the bar and restaurant were empty! Its always a good sign when a place is busy. Our main reason for staying (apart from celebrating an anniversary) was to explore the North Devon Coast including Clovelly. The Hoops Inn is ideally located to explore this part of the Devon coast from Hartland Point to Westward Ho! although we explored as far as Saunton Sands and Croyde Beach.
