Visited today for the first time, from the moment we entered we were met with a huge smile and a chatty welcoming atmosphere. The food was amazing, the nicest meal we've ever eaten out. We had food from the specials board chicken breast stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes and mozzarella, served with hassleback potato and chimchurri the team member serving us was so knowledgeable and friendly, we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend.
Had a delightful experience today at The Grofield. Great atmosphere all round! You can either sit inside the cosy restaurant area or in the lovely garden that has a heated indoor eating shed. The food was tasty and reasonable priced. The service was brilliant and all staff were very friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and will be going again. Highly recommend!
The Grofield Inn in Abergavenny is one of those places that reminds you why proper pubs still matter.nnThe kind of place you’d walk straight past without realising what’s hidden behind the door. From the outside it looks modest. Traditional pub sign, built into a terrace, no huge statement trying to drag you in from the street. In a strange way, that’s part of its charm. It doesn’t scream for attention because it doesn’t need to.nnWalk inside and you’re greeted by an old-school pub atmosphere. Proper bar, proper character, none of the forced “gastro pub” identity crisis you see everywhere now. It feels honest. Familiar. Comfortable.nnBut the real surprise is the beer garden.nnAnd genuinely… it’s one of the best hidden beer gardens I’ve come across in a long time.nnStep outside and suddenly the whole place opens up into this secluded, peaceful little escape tucked away from the world. Beautifully enclosed, quiet, relaxing and incredibly well kept. You completely forget you’re attached to a pub built into a terrace because it feels like its own little sanctuary.nnWhat makes it even better is that it isn’t trying to be “the Instagram pub”… but ironically, it probably is. It has that effortless charm most places spend thousands trying to manufacture. No neon signs telling you where to take photos. No fake aesthetic. No trying too hard. Just a genuinely beautiful setting that people naturally want to share.nnIn a time where pubs are disappearing faster than the elderly, places like this deserve support because they understand something many others have forgotten. A pub doesn’t need to reinvent itself into a cocktail bar, nightclub, overpriced restaurant or social media backdrop. It just needs to do the basics properly. Good atmosphere. Welcoming environment. A place people actually want to spend time in.nnThe Grofield gets that.nnIt’s not trying to be trendy. It’s not pretending to be something it’s not. It’s simply a proper pub, done properly, and that alone makes it worth visiting.

A gorgeous pub with a fantastic outside seating area. We had a small dog and so were seated in the enclosed area of the upper garden. Very well kitted out and was very inviting. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again
