I had popped into the pub to book a Christmas meal directly with the manager. I showed him our favourite table and asked if we could book this for our meal. He said no, but if it was free on the day when we arrived, then by all means we could take it. I was happy with that so I paid a £20 deposit and handed in our menu selection as required. When we turned up on the 22nd December, we were delighted to see our preferred table was free, so we automatically assumed we could sit there, but this same manager flatly refused to serve our meal at this table. He clearly wasn't going to budge so we were shown to the table which had been reserved for us, wedged up against a dark and dingy fireplace. It was horrible so I called the manager over, said I wasn't happy with the seating we had been given, reminded him again what he had said at the time we booked, which was that if the table was free we could have it. Well it was free, but he clearly intended to stick to his guns, so rather than sit somewhere we wouldn't have enjoyed, we got up and left the pub, and forfeited our £20 deposit. I have never been anywhere where the wishes of the customer count for absolutely nothing, so we will never be going there again. Linda Ingram

Excellent pub/restaurant. Lovely to have the cask ales and good food side by side. And the staff make you as welcome whatever is you fancy.

Bar staff were very unreasonable made us pay for food we didn’t order if it wasn’t for the fact we were there for a birthday party I would of refused to pay for my meal the food was warm not hot and for a food based pub, the chef should know the difference between a medium rare steak which I asked for and a well done steak which is what we all got!! Don’t know the barmaid that wears glasses, but have a big look in the mirror love! Your not better than others so don’t try and act it! The only reason it’s got one star is for the Stella Artois!
