The George

About

The George Public House has now reopened following an amazing refurbishment with the addition of a first floor restaurant, the Pig & Goose.

Story

The George Public House is a Victorian reincarnation of a 15th
century coffee house located at the meeting point of the Strand and
Fleet Street, directly facing the spectacular architecture of the Royal
Courts of Justice and a 10 minute walk from the West End.
In the Autumn of 2014, The George underwent an extensive and
considerate refurbishment of the ground floor bar and first floor
dining room. This saw the creation of an elegant and sophisticated
restaurant; The Pig and Goose at The George and the Horace
Walpole private dining room. We have carefully retained the original
features of this historic pub and have tastefully added our own stamp
while keeping a traditional feel throughout.
The brand new Pig & Goose restaurant upstairs at The George is
open Monday to Saturday and offers an exciting, modern British
menu, using only the finest seasonal, local produce. You can expect
dishes such as Rose Veal tartar with celeriac and quails egg, suckling
pig porchetta, smoked ham hock and white bean ragout and a wild
rabbit pithivier, creamed parsnips, braised cabbage and cider sauce.
Along side this is our extensive and thoughtfully selected wine cellar
specialising in old world wines with a particular focus on French
classics.
Adjacent to the Pig & Goose restaurant we have the exclusive Horace
Walpole private dining room, with a stunning view of the Courts.
The room can be hired for meetings, drinks or a seated dinner for up
to 10 people with your own private waiter. When you visit, our team
is always on hand to show you around and talk to you about the
variety of events we can offer in the Horace Walpole room.
Our bar is open 7 days a week with a fresh, exciting, classic british
menu offering such delights as Hampshire game terrine with beetroot
relish, Steamed mussels with shallots, parsley and ale and Barbary
duck shepherds pie with Autumn greens. The bar features a great
range of craft beers, 9 rotating local and national real ales and a
carefully crafted wine and spirit selection. Perfect for casual lunch
dining, afterwork drinks, and a weekend meal away from the hustle
and bustle of the West End.
Whatever the occasion, the George on the Strand will be able to
offer something for everyone, whether it is a romantic meal with a
loved one, a birthday celebration in the bar, or a business meeting in
the Horace Walpole private dining room.

This place has amazing Sunday roast and I would highly recommend it. The beef was particulars good. Cocktails were also absolutely fantastic, the spicy peach margaritas were a definite favourite of ours. Additional perk of this establishment is that they serve Sunday roast up until 7pm, which is quite unique in London. Desserts were also exquisite, the sticky toffee pudding we tried was one of the best I’ve had. I would highly recommend
The Guinness and food is great, I have eaten at The George three times and it’s been faultless each time. Mark has always been so welcoming and accommodating when I’ve been in with my young children. I believe it’s the best service I’ve received in a pub in London. Thank you Mark.
So far, the best Sunday roast I've had since moving to the UK 14 years ago. The quality of the food is outstanding—nothing compares to any other pubs nearby. The service was excellent, and we were really pleased with what we ordered. I will definitely go back again!Food: 5/5
Really disappointing Sunday roast, after reading all the reviews I decided to take my family for a birthday meal. Nothing was seasoned and I had to salt almost every single component of the meal. Service was a bit slow and thought everything was overpriced sadly.Food: 3/5
Lovely corner street public house. Beautifully decorated inside and out. The bar is a traditional look of dark oak and a racing geen paint for decor. Photos on the walls dating history throughout. Even the Lovely staircase down to the toilet which continue the paint theme of racing green and dark oak. Toilets were immaculate and with candle incense. Food was outstanding, I had the Pork Cheek Curry.. oh wow.. presented Beautifully and tasted out if this world, £25. But worth it. Selection if drinks as expected in a bar, but all served with a great service and happy staff.
Excellent food, great beer on taps / pumps, good selection of whisky, gins and other spirits. Helpfull and caring waiters and bartenders. Classic and cozy interiors, with nice woodwork.Food: 5/5
We had a wonderful Sunday early evening roast. The staff were very accommodating and informative. The upstairs dining area is super comfortable with nice ambiance. The toast itself was sooooo good! We had the sharing option for 2 people and it was plenty of food. We had to take some home. A mix of all the meats and trimmings. I would highly recommend this roast but of course also recommend booking ahead as there is no guarantee of not. Also it is best to book before 5pm as to again guarantee all the food hasn’t been scoffed!
Best meal ever! I got to enjoy the Sunday roast, and it was so worth every minute of it. Start off with some drinks and starters, but also leave room for dessert. Everything we ordered was amazing!Food: 5/5
My pub was a classic, cool London pub and the meals were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately I had to wait 30 mins and ask staff for my main meal to come out, but it was worth the wait for the classic fish & chips. It comes in 2 sizes and I chose the smaller potion. It was just what I needed. The bathroom was clean and good quality too. Vegetarian options: I ordered the cauliflower and onion bhaji and it was delicious!
Saw this place on a youtube video and checked it on google maps, rating was high enough. What a nice pub to spend your evening with your friends. No need to reserve before popping-in. There was a live music on saturday. Not sure if they have it all week. Beers around 6-7 pounds. Their kitchen is open until 10 pm. Strongly recommended!
