The Fat Bear

About

American Inspiration, British Execution. Serving regional American cuisine, bourbon and rum-led cocktail offering, and fantastic wines.

Story

From the soul-enriching Cajun gumbo of New Orleans to the Ahi tuna of California, by way of the Deep South's soul food like Fried Chicken & Waffles, there's a rotating menu of dishes which lie at the heart of America’s regional cuisines served at The Fat bear.

Good drink is as important to us as good food, so we offer a comprehensive selection of spirits (especially bourbon and rum), cocktails made with care and excellent ingredients (even our house pours are brands that we happily drink neat), and a superb selection of lovingly selected wines with an emphasis on American wines of interesting varieties and styles you may not have tried before.

Whether you're looking for a romantic table for 2 on date night, a large group booking for a birthday or other private event, a working lunch with your team in our private dining room, or just a cocktail and snack at the bar by yourself, we're happy to cater to any and all of your needs.

'Relaxed Excellence’ is key to The Fat Bear - superb service and food in a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere.

We came to fat bear for dinner and enjoyed the evening. A highlight for me was the excellent service we received from the team there. Food wise, we tried the fat bear burger and the chicken burger. Both were very good but I think the beef burger was slightly better. The sweet potato mash was nice but I found it a bit too sweet. The biscuits were also excellent. Overall a lovely experience and a restaurant I would recommend.
Its located above the pub. The entrance is down the alley beside the pub. The food is really, really nice. You could fool me into thinking we are in America while there. My party were all happy with all dishes. One went as far as getting the buffalo starter he had after the main again. I'll be going again to try and work my way through the extensive menu. Recommended.
My partner and I enjoyed a lovey lunch here. Having been to New Orleans before, we both love gumbo, which is extremely hard to find in London well, it’s hard to find good gumbo. I had the vegetarian one while my partner had the chicken and prawn one, and we were delighted to discover the gumbo here is as good as any we had in NOLA! The cocktails and dessert were good too, although we were surprised that there was no hurricane on the cocktail menu! Service was friendly but could have been a little more attentive. We will very likely return in the future.
Good friendly service, nice space that doesn't exactly go with the food but that's not a big deal and tasty food. Mac and cheese was definitely a winner... The corndogs were tasty but you almost want the poor quality sausage rather than a super posh one. Tried the gumbo which was tasty and a generous serving!
Had a phenomenal meal and experience at The Fat Bear. Gareth was extremely hospitable and was very knowledgeable on his bourbon. The fried chicken sandwich was perfectly cooked and reminded me a lot of fried chicken from the south Atlanta, GA. I cannot recommend The Fat Bear enough! If you are in the area visiting they are just past the mcdonalds, towards the river, slightly to the right on the upstairs portion of a pub called Rising Sun stairs are to the left side of the pub. Thanks again Gareth!
Very glad I came here. Really enjoyable meal. You couldn't eat regularly as you would be enormous. But for a one off it was great. Also bike parking outside which was good. Went for the chicken and waffle, Buffalo style!
I'm from New Orleans and I can attest that this place is legit. 5 star quality gumbo and some of the best cocktails I've ever had. Highly recommended for anyone looking for southern food with big flavor. The owner, the "Fat Bear" himself, and his wife deserve all the accolades I can give them for a fantastic menu and dining experience.
It’s a small but lovely restaurant. Cocktail lists are interesting, I ordered a Sloe boat to China which is mixed Gin and juices. It’s the first time I try southern American food. I would say it’s very delicious and meet my expectations. Recommend the Gumbo, a bit spicy, the texture quite like curry rather than soup. The cornbread is a bit too sweet.
Had sausage gravy with biscuits off the side menu just ask and fried chicken and waffles with Siracha maple syrup. The sausage gravy and biscuits were my favorites and everyone I ate with had the gravy on whatever they order and loved it too. The fried chicken was excellent, the waffles were the only thing that was just fine not amazing.
My favourite restaurant in London hands down. Nothing will stop me coming back for the Buffalo chicken tenders and pimento cheese. Nothing! Staff are excellent too - they can give great advice and recommendations on the menu and pairings of wine/cocktails. Always a good time at The Fat Bear.
