Went in for a midweek lunch with my mum and toddler to try the £10 lunch plus drink deal. I'm so glad we did. We could choose where to sit and decided to sit near the fireplace which is super cosy. The service from the lady at the bar was exceptional. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name but she is a credit to the place. Nothing was too much trouble, super chatty and wonderfully kind to my son. The food was really delicious and arrived within 15 minutes. The portions are a little small but that is stated on the lunch deal and wasn't a problem for us, it was just the right size for us personally. Atmosphere was really nice and prices are great. Will definitely return in the future. I noticed they do a lot of pub quizzes and tribute nights which sound good. Wheelchair accessible and also dog friendly. Great place for anyone. Would recommend Vegetarian options: There are quite a few vegetarian options available and staff are happy to make small amendments to meals if needed Kid-friendliness: Staff so friendly with children. Children's menu available and crayons/colouring page provided. Although I'd personally change the way the crayons are stored because I was scared the whole time I was there that my son may break the glass jar they are provided in. So perhaps they could be put into plastic jars instead Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance
Sunday lunch at the Famous Crown is simply the best! Even the Grandchildren love it as they are treated like VIPs by Dionne and staff every time we go. If you like to wash your meal down with a lovely glass of quality wine, then you won’t be disappointed. The open fireplace… what more can I say? It just sets the scene for a relaxing afternoon!
I booked a table for 4 for Sunday lunch, just before Christmas. The pub itself is beautiful, outside & inside, after it's much awaited renovation. It is gorgeous inside, with cosy nooks everywhere. We ordered two roast beef dishes, a vegetarian dish & a roast chicken dish. The food was restaurant quality. It looked wonderful & tasted even better. And importantly, hot plates, so the food stayed hot for the duration of the meal. Dionne the landlady, is very friendly & welcoming. Issy, one of the bar staff, whom I have met on three occasions, is excellent. She has remembered me each time & is extremely personable & efficient. Dionne understands very well that chefs & bar staff can make or break a pub/restaurant. Long may "The Famous Crown" continue!
We had the pleasure of spending a few evenings in the company of the delightful Dionne and her staff on our recent trip home to the UK. She made us feel so welcome and at home, making us realize what we miss about the UK most, a friendly, warm and inviting pub. The Crown itself is a warm and inviting place, with many cozy nooks to spend time with family and friends. Beautiful decor, in keeping with the age of the establishment. The food was exceptional. We had a variety of meals between us all, which were all of restaurant standard, both in presentation and taste. Definitely great value for money. We played a few games with the bar staff one night, and had an absolute blast. Many Thanks to Everyone at the Crown for making our trip home, such a memorable and enjoyable one. We will definitely have you on our hit list on our next trip back to Manchester. Parking: parking to the rear of premises
Had the loveliest food! The staff are all really lovely, super attentive and friendly. We came for steak and it was done to perfection, exactly what we asked for. I would definitely come back again!Food: 5/5
Left a negative review in March due to the service. Since then been back for drinks about 8 times and Sunday Lunch twice. Clearly upped their game. Beer and bar service now bang on. Roast chicken superb consisting of plump crispy skinned thighs by far my favourite part of chicken, loads of veg and roast pots all done really well ie cooked but not falling to bits. Loads of hot gravy aswell all on a hot plate many places fall down on that last detail
First visit with Martin Meerkat since The "Famous" Crown reopened after a few years. Seems very much as was..just cleaner. Oddly Martin's friend Tim came a few weeks ago and had to remove his hat? My wooly hat was acceptable. Go figure. TV and sport in back room. Real ale choice of Sharps Atlantic, Purity Longhorn Rye IPA or Taylor's Landlord..had the later. Good pint. Best memory was when wife came in with her backpack..turned round and sent a pint flying off a ledge..NOT ME! Must have been the fairies. Or Flat Eric.
First time in Didsbury , discovered this lovely pub , with a open fire , decent pint and lovely food , the landlady Dionne went above and beyond to make me and my partner welcome , we felt part of the family after just 1 visit , met a lovely couple Linda and Steve , this a future must for us .Fantastic find .Food: 5/5
What a great find! Lovely service, super friendly and professional. The food was really good quality and value. We will comeback!Food: 5/5
The food was excellent and it was served by very pleasant and efficient staff. The landlady in particular was friendly and showed concern to make sure everything was OK. Recommended place.Food: 4/5
