I support independent cinema but they must do better. Cold. No signage for rows, exits or toilets. Slow service. Good natured nevertheless. Can't be easy or cheap to run the place but it's not good to shiver through a film.
We did the behind the scenes tour today. What an amazing place! One of the best bits of Birmingham history that we should all know about and definitely fight to preserve. It was so good to hear the origin story of the Electric and to think about all it's gone through since 1909... and it was particularly brilliant to see original features and equipment and poke around in the basement... If you love cinema and love Birmingham then the Electric tour is a must
A charming little cinema, the first cinema in Birmingham, and as of 2022 is the oldest known working cinema in the UK. Friendly, cosy, great cocktails. Thank you for the experience!
A beautiful venue but really rude service. Booked tickets for Dear England with my 15 and 17 yo sons and refused entry without apology as they do not carry ID. In the terms and conditions they reserve the right to request. This is not clear on the website or tickets and they do not refund if you have not read those additional documents. Beware if you are a parent and do not carry your child's passport with you. Young people and families are clearly not welcome. Electric team - would be good to see you make clear to families wanting to bring children and young people unlike other cinemas it is your usual practice to only admit with ID.
What a fantastic place. I never knew it was there. This not like any other cinema that I have been before. You seat in sofas then you text you drinks and snacks order to a number and then your order turns up. Brilliant experience.
Oldest working cinema in England, showing the best of recent releases and classic movies and cult favourites. Great cake and cocktails too.
A lovely intimate cinema with 2 small screens and a bar. Seats are comfy, especially the armchairs at the front where they also come with footstools. There are also sofas at the back, but better to be at the front especially for screen 2 upstairs
A really lovely venue but it's lost what it used to be, with extortionate prices, and the removal of service to your seat. It's lost its old world charm, the quirky atmosphere, and cosiness that were it's appeal. Let's hope the owners rethink deeper into it's purpose instead of trying to compete with Everyman...
The screen was perfectly sized, providing an immersive movie-watching experience. The selection of films was diverse, catering to all tastes, from the latest blockbusters to timeless classics and obscure independent films. Furthermore, their refreshment offerings were great. They have the typical popcorn, sweets, and ice cream. They also serve cocktails apart from the usual drinks. The seats and the women's toilet have seen better days. It would be nice if these could get upgraded but apart from that, it was a great experience.
I love this iconic place tucked away in a quaint corner of city centre. I love the cozy , non commercial vibes of the place which makes me quite nostalgic of the movie experiences of the olden days every time. The selections are good, lots of indie movies if you like them.
