Story

The Dragon School, Oxford, is one school on two sites in North Oxford for children aged 4 -13 years old. The Dragon was founded in the late nineteenth century by a group of Oxford University dons who wanted their own children to enjoy school and understand the world around them.

The School ethos has been described as ‘robust informality and relaxed rigour’. The joy of learning and the fun of childhood exploration are valued and every child is encouraged to try everything and do his or her best.

The Dragon has a thriving community, with the active involvement of Old Dragons - many of whom are inspirational leaders around the world - as well as former and current staff, parents and pupils.

A confidence building school where my children have taken part in loads of activities, choirs, plays, sport and other interesting things such as a girls' coding club.  However good you are, there is a place in a choir for you (and 200 children are in choirs).   They do really interesting and high quality drama productions that include whole year groups .  When my elder daughter left in the summer I was impressed with just how many children would stand up and sing a solo at the leavers' concert to a packed hall.  That is because from the start the school puts an effort on confidence and inclusion.  The school is not academically selective, but the academic standards are high, with lots of children winning scholarships. The teachers are really lovely.  The ethos is be kind, be kind, be kind.  There is a heavy emphasis on pastoral care, and they walk the talk at the Dragon.  Pastoral care is totally integrated into the way the teachers treat the children, and even 13 year olds are having weekly 'Circle Time' to talk about PSHE issues.  The Dragon is a really great school.

The Dragon is mostly a good school offering an excellent education for 4 to 13 year olds, of which it is amongst the very best in the country. Most of the teachers are very friendly and easy to approach. The majority of subjects are compulsory, likewise are the activities/clubs and sport. Facilities are mostly good, with the most recent additions a new state-of-the-art computer suite, new dining hall serveries and supposedly soundproof music practice rooms. There are 10 boarding houses, one of which is weekly boarding. Boarding at the Dragon isn't bad, there are lots of activities at the weekends but the beds feel like you're sleeping on a metal spring. The food isn't great, either. While improvements are being slowly made, these are minor and the overall quality of the school food remains mediocre. There is also too much of an emphasis on safeguarding and 'healthy relationships' etc. Having been at the school for five years I have to say I really enjoyed being there.

this school has no manner and is very disrespectful. i will not attend my children to this school anymore.
