St Gregory the Great Catholic School

Story

St Gregory the Great Catholic School is a mixed Roman Catholic all-through school with academy status, located in Cowley, Oxfordshire, England. It is one of only two state-funded Catholic schools offering secondary education in that county, the other being Blessed George Napier Roman Catholic School in Banbury. The previous executive principal John Hussey, joined the school as acting headteacher in 2008. He later was appointed to the role of permanent headteacher in the spring term of 2009. The school converted to academy status in April 2013, and became the lead school in the Dominic Barberi Multi-Academy Company a month later. The Dominic Barberi Multi-Academy Company is now composed of seven Catholic schools in south Oxfordshire. St Gregory the Great is the only secondary school. They include: St Gregory the Great Catholic All-Through School, Oxford St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, Kidlington St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, Oxford Our Lady's Catholic Primary School, Oxford St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Thame St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Carterton Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, Witney In September 2013, the school became an all-through school, with pupils ranging from the ages of 4 to 18. However, the primary school only consists of foundation, year one and year two at this time. Dr McCarthy was appointed as Principal in 2015.Funding for New BuildingsUntil funding for the new buildings was finalized in 2006, the school existed on two sites: the Cardinal Newman Middle School on Cricket Road, and St Augustine's, Iffley Turn, Oxford. However, after receiving a £20,000,000 grant from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham, the current buildings were built. Work began in March 2014 on the adjacent former Cricket Road Centre to convert it into the school's new primary school, for children aged 4–11.

I went to this school from year 7-11. I was bullied the entire way through but nothing was done about it. The amount of times I had people shouting things at me in class so I stuck up for myself, I was sent out of the room and put in detention. That school made my mental health so bad. The teachers really don’t care about their students, for example, I was sat in my science class with 6 other students and we was all sat infront of the teacher Dr Dillon. I was sat there having songs sung at me so loudly that it was obvious to anyone in the room. I got up and went and stood outside of the classroom so he called another teacher to come get me and put me in isolation. When that teacher came I told her what happened and he stood there and called me a liar saying no songs were sang and saying the room was dead silent and I just wanted to get up and leave. I had a teacher put her hand in my face saying go away when I was trying to help one of my best friends when they were going through the same thing I was. She put her hand it my face and said I only ever make situations worse. So I started to walk to my class which was next door to her class where she was taking my friend so she went back down the stairs and waited until I was gone. This is the worst school I could’ve ever been sent to. The teachers are horrible to the students. They don’t care about students, only about looking good to ofsted. I recommend you don’t send your kids here. I’m lucky I’m out of that school now but it has affected me permanently. I have really bad social anxiety so I struggle talking to new people and I always feel like people are talking about me behind my back. The head teacher Mrs Caldwell is the worst head teacher we have ever had. She only cares about her self image, never thinks about the students. Some of the teachers were really nice but then they either chose to leave or was forced to
this school cares more about uniform than anything else.lineups are useless and waste time like the whole school just goes to one spot lined up and goes lesson I think it’s to stop people from skipping lessons or whatever but waste of time. Also many of the teachers are rude and unreasonable especially cover teachers
Personally the school dose not care about you they only care for the uniform they treat you terribly and they don’t care about people with mental health they just lie that they are helping but there not and the school can’t deal with things properly this school is terrible don’t go to this school also the teachers treat you disrespectfully and don’t give you respect this is my opinion
Went to this school until y11 finished my gcse. Never have I ever been in a bad school ever teachers don’t help much when you have problems or about your mental health , school uniform matters more than that in this school, including some of the teachers that make fun of you for it
I reported the teachers for bullying me, mocking my name and nationality. Their response was absolutely nothing. I do not recommend this school.
