I recently celebrated a birthday at The Dog, and it was a delightful experience! Our group of 8 enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, quick service, and delicious food. The menu offered a range of options, and everyone found something they loved. The vegan burger was particularly tasty, accompanied by a sizable salad. The staff was friendly and attentive, making our celebration even more enjoyable. The pub’s traditional vibe, complete with an inviting real fire, added to the charm. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed lunch or a cozy dinner, The Dog is a great choice.
The food was well lovely The pub is also dog friendly as we had two dogs. We had our food in the outside area when the food was brought to us they placed the food at the table and left we could ask as she didn't leave any cutlery/napkins or if we needed sauces...but didn't mind fetching them ourselves and for our kids...just thinking of the elderly and people with disabilities etc...but anyway lovely pet friendly pub as we had 2 dogs I even foned my parents to come down and a drink with us so all lovely definitely visiting again as food was lovely Parking: We went about 4.45pm and left about 6.45pm so still plenty of free parking on the carpark and on the street outside on the side road l. Kid-friendliness: Nothing for the kids to do there but the lightwoods park is just next door to the place.
Sunday lunch very good. Only downside was I ordered an extra of potato dauphinose with it. None came with my main so I asked waitress about this. She said they would follow soon. I think they hadn't come after about 10 minutes did not time, so cannot be certain but I had eaten a lot of my fish and other veg before I headed towards bar to ask someone. A waitress carrying drinks said she would find out but I hovered towards bar wanting quicker resolution. A colleague sat nearby at a table using a laptop offered to help, so I said I'd asked 2 staff already. She headed towards kitchen and I had my side within a few minutes. But I think kitchen staff should be aware that diners do not wish to chase up ordered sides. Either they should come with the main at the same timeor immediately after that. The customer should not have to keep reminding staff. Otherwise, the Sunday menu has an excellent choice and food was that too
Had a meal at the Dog on Wednesday night 21st August. Four people, the starters came out quickly and were enjoyable. The main course followed maybe twenty minutes later which I find pleasant as I prefer a gap between courses. The two steaks were cooked to perfection and came out as requested one medium and one medium rare. The chicken schnitzel was very nice and cooked.lovely the chicken not too dry. Finally the sausage and mash cooked as wanted well done. In other places this can lead to a dry inner but these were blackened on the outside but wonderfully cooked, light and not greasy on the inside. Well done to the chef team at the Dog. I must mention the front of house team were warm and friendly. Nothing an issue and going above expectations whilst helping with promotion offers. Also not rushing to pour a pint of Guinness to the point they brought it to the table, you don't get that in many places on England.
Great old pub, that is super welcoming and has delicious food. Lots of space, so grab yourself a seat, order a pint and work your way through the menu!Food: 5/5
We've been coming to The Dog for a few years and it has recently had a refurb which is very nice. We came on a Friday at around 5pm without a booking. The place was busy so would recommend booking in advance. We managed to get a table after about an hour by chance. Great value food - vegetarian burger and gammon, egg, and chips. One of the meals was a deal which included a dessert too. Food is reasonably priced and nice enough. Staff were friendly. Drinks - a pint of peroni £5.80 and a lemonade £3.30.
We enjoyed a lovely Christmas meal at The Dog with our friend. There was a varied selection on the Christmas menu to choose from with something to suit most tastes. To start, two of us choose the very tasty parsnip soup while the other had the prawn cocktail. For the main I had the vegetarian spinach and mushroom wellington and the others choose the turkey. The portions were generous but we all cleared our plates as everything tasted superb. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the desserts as we were too full! Vegetarian options: Good choices on the Christmas menu for vegetarians. Parking: There is a carpark behind the pub and spaces on the road outside.
Music a bit loud. Food was good for the most part. Fishcakes are a bit dry with only a small dish of sauce. Ember inn pub with a few decent beers and lots of poor ones. Lunch time Friday was not busy at all. Free parking behind pub.
We visited for Sunday roast and were not disappointed. The food was lovely and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely go back!Food: 5/5
