In the highly competitive market for Sunday lunch, the Dog and Duck unfortunately fell short. The service was fine, and very friendly and even thoughtful, but the food was mediocre at best, despite being priced at the top of the range for a Sunday's meat and two veg. The starters were good - interesting, well presented, and well cooked - but the main plates, despite being large, had little to recommend them. The roast dinner was as arid as the Sahara, and edible only by drowning it in additional jugs of gravy, which thankfully were brought upon request. The lamb roast was from the bottom end of fine cuts, and the vegetarian samosa thingy was just odd. The roast chicken was said to be fine, but the roast potatoes were almost inedible, and the attractive and sizable Yorkshire puddings leathery in places and just papery-dry in others. Three of four plates were left unfinished. We've had better meals here in previous years, and you can still get one better up the road.
Found this very beautiful place for our Sunday lunch. Perfect ,food so good cooked lamb to perfection also the gravey was so tasty. Homemade sauces and chutney. We had starter pate and it was delicious. We then had lamb roast and chicken roast both cooked to perfection. We had their own bitter which was great. The service was excellent with attention to detail, always asking if we wanted anything, water brought to our table without being asked. They were so friendly and the atmosphere was amazing too. Would most definitely recommend.
Great little pub for a bit to eat or a sit in the beer garden. Decent pint of Guinness, too, which is always a win. A nice historic building tastefully decorated.
The food was absolutely amazing, I had the haddock, chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce which were so tasty. The fish had a such a nice flavour and crispy batter. The chips were nice and crispy. The tartar sauce was was definitely homemade as it was sooo good! I would definitely recommend visiting the pub as it is beautiful inside and out, the staff are very friendly and the food is really tasty!
Lovely pub, fabulous food, cosy warm, friendly atmosphere. What's not to love. I would certainly return and in my party of 8 everyone was impressed with food. Well worth a visit. Advisable to book.
