The Crown and Shuttle

About

Cocktails in a nostalgia soaked 90's pub.

Story

Put on your rose-tinted glasses, dig out your Kappa tracksuit and prepare to get soggy with nostalgia.
Welcome to Filthy Fanny's.

Following the superlative success of last winter’s twenties gin joint, we see The Crown and Shuttle’s clandestine cocktail bar reborn into a 1990’s Shoreditch, a world where vapes were rollies and The Crown and Shuttle was a strip joint. Airs and graces have been set aside as Fanny, the filthiest landlady in all the East End sets out to run a proper nineties boozer, her way.

With tongue firmly in cheek, Filthy Fanny’s offers everything you could wish for in a bygone Shoreditch boozer, just, you know … better. From “Expresso Martinis” and “Muh-jeetos”, to eerily familiar blue alcopops, the has-beens of the cocktail world are given a new lease of life, using slightly more up-to-date, and endlessly more fabulous ingredients. House-made Bombay mix is washed down by pornstar martinis on ladies night, quizzes question your 90’s pop culture prowess, and it all goes to hell in a hand-cart with kitsch classic Karaoke. With Fanny running the show you can guarantee there will be enough high camp drama to keep even RuPaul entertained.

A mecca for wannabes, ladettes and lager louts, Filthy Fanny’s will create a hyper-real vision of the nineties for those who wish they remembered the days, and those who wish they could forget them.

In the front your average looking pub, in the back a yard nestled in between old brick houses. Half expected Mary Poppins chimney sweeps to pop out any minute. Great atmosphereFood: 5/5
Had a private function upstairs here... Pretty decent... Drinks flowing with no problems.Food: 4/5
This is a great pub in Shoreditch with a pretty massive beer garden. Sadly doesn't get the late Summer sun but still nice. We got here at 4.30 and managed to get a long table but most were booked. By 6.30 on a Tuesday it was super busy. Service for drinks was quick at the bar. Definitely recommend for drinks with friends outside.
I went to the place last night. It was a great venue. Sara and Valentine were amazing, with great drinks and good recommendations. Im gonna add this to one of my favourite places now!Food: 4/5
The pub's good. Has friendly helpful staff and not bad prices for central London. I've only tried a few menu items, and they weren't to my taste. I know they work hard here, so I won't go in to detail on the food. It's a basic pub. Nothing fancy. It does have outside seating with heaters, which can be nice. It can get very busy, so be aware you probably won't get a table, or seat, if going in the evening. I'd recommend it though. Have taken a few friends there and we all enjoyed ourselves. Vegetarian options: The menu is small about 20 items and the vegetarian/vegan options a few of these, but mostly things like fries and olives, although there is a vegan burger. There are some cauliflower buffalo wings, but I found these to be pretty awful. Sorry C&S. Dietary restrictions: I can't speak for all dietary restrictions, but I do know they have some gf lagers and drinks, as I emailed asking and asked at the bar and they responded positively. Parking: There are a few paid for ticket machine parking bays around. But there are only a few and they get filled up quickly. Most parking bays round here are resident permit only. Off the top of my head, there are some paid for bays in Quaker Street about 7 minutes walk and Folgate Street about 5 minutes walk. There are some business bays that are sometimes available Saturday and after 2pm Sunday, but people will wait for these and zip in as the clock strikes the allowed time. Also, round here, you can have just parked and they'll be writing you a ticket. They also tow if you've so much as put a tyre an inch over the line. So be careful! Wheelchair accessibility: While it is possible to get a wheelchair over the small threshold strip in to the main bar, the toilets are upstairs and the outside area is up a couple of steps. If you use a wheelchair, it is possible to go in and have a drink, but as you can't easily get to every area and, unless your wheelchair is magic and floats in my dreams, you can't access the toilets.
The Crown and Shuttle on Principal Place, close to the Great Eastern Road is a great place for a beer. Situated in a building that looks like it has or is about to fall down. It's been opened up to create a brilliant series of drinking areas both inside and out. Lovely staff and good service all help. Plenty of well and lesser known beers and ciders from the keg as well as a couple of cask ales for those that do. Also some onsite brewing courtesy of Duvel it appears. A fine place to go.
The facade belies this fab little pub in Shoreditch. Stretches back with covered outside space. Quirky and prices that will make you think you’re up north Didn’t eat but food looked good.
Food here is so good!!! They have many non alcoholic drinks which I like. The garden is huge and very lovely, great place for a gathering.Food: 5/5
The sausage roll promised to be wrapped in bacon and yet none appeared It was also dry, and overpowered by thyme. Shame. Excellent atmosphere otherwise, but the sausage roll really soured the experience.Food: 1/5
Deceptively huge pub in Shoreditch! Fairly small exterior but opens up into two large bars with a large attractive beer garden. Exposed brick and junkyard decor adds to the hipster feel. Huge range of ales and craft beers - different ones sold in each bar. Great for big groups and for summer drinking outside. Food looked good too.
