Came here for a pre mother's day meal, last Saturday with my daughter, son in law & granddaughter, the food was gigantic, delicious & the pub was cosy , welcoming & a fab location. Definitely worth a visit .
Lovely pub! food & service great. Good gluten free selection.
Visited on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. Just had a drink. Seemed a nice pub in a nice village. Loved the bit of history on the sign outside too.
Love visiting the Crispin when we’re up in Ashover. Always looks lovey ant Christmas too. As per, we were given a very warm welcome. We had a fab Sunday lunch, which I can be pretty wary of eating Sunday lunches out and about usually meatbcan be grey and overcooked and veg raw etcbut this was delicious. Meat was perfectly cooked and the meal plentiful. We had a little one with us too, who was catered for brilliantly. Looking forward to my next visit. Only thing I was upset about was the fact the brewery won’t allow customers to add a tip when paying by card. Loads of places can do this, so not sure what the excuse could be. The brewery need to sort that out, as no one really carry’s cash any more. I wanted to leave a tip as the staff were grand and we had a lovely evening.
Ripped off! Went for a Monday pint and ordered a cask ale and a lager for my wife who paid. I asked what the cost of my pint was and was told £4.40. Funny that as the sign on the entrance doors clearly states all cask ales £2.80 on Monday's and Tuesday's. When I asked the girl serving she pleaded ignorance. I showed her the sign and told her that we have a contract and they owed me £1.60. Again she went to seek advice. As we sat outside we heard a noise by the front door and she told me that it was from 5pm and she wrote that on the sign, there and then. We did not get a refund and a couple of ladies told us that they didn't pay £2.80. Customers are getting ripped off. There are 2 other pubs nearby. Go there so you don't get scammed. Never going here again and I would love to hear the response from the owner who clearly has no moral standards.
Hopefully our experience was not typical, but it was poor and something the owner would no doubt wish to know about. It was very busy and so we expected to have to wait a fair while and were happy to do so. There were several issues which detracted from our experience. One member of our party was not served a meal. She advised the waitress and waited for it to arrive. After some time she enquired about when it would arrive and was told it hadn’t been ordered in the kitchen, but she could order one if she wanted she hadn't come back to the table to tell her this information . Given the timing and everyone else already being part way through their meals, she decided to do without and food was shared out within the group to try to compensate. Added to this: at the time when we expected our order to be about ready, we were told several meals were unavailable – thus requiring reordering and further wait. Better organisation/communication would have prevented this. When the meals came, one order was short of some of the described ingredients e.g. chips, which weren’t subsequently supplied despite us informing the staff. When paying, my friend described the missing parts of the meal and was simply ignored – the waitress simply gave her the bill without responding to her feedback. My friend was not the pushy sort and simply paid, but it left a bad impression. That seemed to fit in with our general experience – the staff simply didn’t appear to be connected/interested and the impression created within our group of 12 was that we were an irritation, which had a significantly negative impact on what of should have been a really enjoyable get together over the Christmas period. Hopefully the situation can be improved and we may try again in another 6 months or so – as the location and environment were great we often come walking in Ashover and the food was good. The primary negative was the poor communication from staff, and their apparent lack of interest in us.
Very poor quality food overall and disappointed. Would not recommend the food at all. Cheap produce, cooked badly. Vegan sausage was awful and just frozen cheap sausage. Waiting staff were lovely and beer ok.
Avoid the restaurant. Take recent reviews as a sign of how things have declined. What used to be a good pub has completely gone out of control. Awful food, confrontational defensive and aggressive owners felt like an episode of kitchen nightmares. Felt embarrassed for them but it explains the empty pub on a weekend... Never before have I been shouted at by an owner for not eating a meal and complaining. Save your money and go anywhere else. There's too many restuarants struggling to waste your money on this mess of a business. The wait staff were lovely is the saving grace. Just hope they can find better working conditions. Update following owners reply: Thanks for highlighting exactly what the review outlined. Embarrassing to be throwing around lies but it's unfortunately your business. Get over it, the food you served was over priced and poor quality. The only abuse that took place was to your poor ingredients.. they deserve better. Those considering visiting please see fuller review above, as well as an example of the owners ridiculous confrontational behaviour in the various Google reviews on here. They clearly have a reputation.
Excellent Sunday roast. Great quality and plenty of food on the plate. Calm and relaxing atmosphere. Will definitely visit again when in the area!
