We booked and fully paid for a 3 nights stay for my 70th Birthday and a break for my wife following a knee replacement operation. We had already confirmed prior to arrival the nightly dinner bookings - we then received a text daily asking to confirm if we required our table bookings which incidentally we already had paid £30 each per night prior to arrival-these texts i now find out were premium rate texts which i have to pay additional to my mobile contract- surely if you have a £180 credit £60/ night and once you confirm 3 dinner bookings prior to arrival this should be sufficient? On being shown to our room on the first floor in the pavilion we did say we would find the stairs difficult as we had thought all the 'better rooms' were on the ground floor. We were still shown to the room and told we would have to speak to the manager if we were not happy with the room-no help was offered to get our luggage up the stairs to our room. The room was tastefully decorated however we did feel it was 'form over function' as there was no wardrobe in the room and not a single coat hanger just 6 coat hooks. I then went down to reception and was told by the manager the hangers were in the wardrobe-i advised him there was no wardrobe- a basic requirement in any hotel room especially when staying for 3 nights. There was also no hook in the bathroom to hang clothes whilst having a shower. Some days there was no milk in the room so another trip outside to reception was required. On arrival there was a dirty spoon in the corner of the room near the coffee machine from a previous occupant -despite daily servicing this spoon was still there on our departure. The food at breakfast and dinner was very good although the food order was not always as requested the staff did resolve matters in a friendly manner. The large lights in the breakfast area of the restaurant are maybe a health & safety issue as although they look good staff and guests were constantly hitting their heads including me twice! Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Cricketers but as you can see we were a little disappointed as demonstrated above. A few little extras would have made a lot of difference, like umbrellas to get to reception and the restaurant when it is pouring with rain, a shaving/ make up mirror and definitely a wardrobe to put clothes and belongings tidily away.
We had a lovely stay. Our dog was made to feel at home with his own bed, blanket and bowl including treats!!. Our room was comfortable and clean. The bed was delightfully comfortable. Our only criticism of the room was that it was very dark so we needed the lights on all the time. Breakfast was very good with a sausage and water available for our dog Benji. Our evening meals were superb. On the whole a lovely place to stay, especially when travelling with our dog. Such a shame they couldn't supply good weather during our break.
Lovely pub, great food, nice and clean room. Coffee machine in room had to be pushed a few times to get a full cup. The staff were lovely and friendly. The only point I would make is allowing dogs into places with food, especially when they are allowed to sit on the chairs when soaking wet. It's not very hygienic and if you have pet allergies like mine, its not nice.
WE were working up the road and needed accommodation for 5 people for two nights and found the Cricketers. What an amazing place. Were were looked after from start to finish. The food and service were excellent and the rooms, one of the most comfy En Suite rooms I have ever stayed in. I cant thank you enough. I then discovered that the pub used to be own my Jamie Oliver's parents! My criticism would be that if your over 5ft 10 you may want to watch your head. I'm 6ft 4 so the bar area was a challenge!! Other than that 5 stars all round. Thanks so much. Tim - Apollo event Consultants Ltd.
A wonderful Pub! We stayed two consecutive Sunday nights and found it very comfortable. The bed was superb and the en suite was pristine. We are our evening meal on both nights and it was lovely. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Great beer too! My two favourites: Adnams and Timothy Taylor’s Landlord! We very much enjoyed the breakfasts and Gail was outstanding in serving us. She made my wife a takeaway bacon sandwich as she doesn’t like eating so early. Overall a great experience!
Lovely rooms - very clean! The pub is lovely, great vibe and busy for a Wednesday! The staff are super helpful and when we asked if we could use a space for a meeting the morning after our stay they couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. Definitely recommend!
The Cricketers offers absolutely everything you could wish for in a traditional English country pub. My partner and I stayed in one of the Willow rooms on a romantic package. The room was beautiful as was the view, and the bubbles on arrival really set the tone for our stay. The pub setting and local walks are picturesque, and the roaring fire is just what you need after a countryside wander. We had steaks for dinner which we felt were the best we’ve had, and the full English brekkie was to die for. We honestly couldn’t fault it - 10/10.
Amazing food, beautiful room and location, staff were lovely. Pub had a great feel, lots of buzz but also very cozy with perfect lighting. Food was incredible. Would definitely stay again.Rooms: 5/5
Went first time a few months ago to stay and have dinner and breakfast then a second time for lunch with the work team. No it's not still owned by Jamie Oliver's parents and hasn't been for a while. Breakfast was probably the best I've had at a pub/restaurant/hotel. Dinner not so: they'd stopped doing the Sunday roast by Sunday evening that we'd hoped for and perhaps naively assumed was still going to be on offer Sunday evening.
A fantastic stay! The room was huge and so well-appointed and comfortable. Good breakfasts too and we enjoyed the dinner we had one night. All round great experience. Thank you! Ps we’ve booked to come back in a few week’s time.Rooms: 5/5
